really loved this.

i appreciate how little they initiate, even though it's more out of necessity to probably fit in all of the story.

the directing seemed less clumsy than episodes of season one. whoever said it was more confident is dead on.

it has also never looked this good. often if you passed by someone watching season 1 it would look like a mid-afternoon saturday serial, and now it (almost) doesn't.

I dunno. As much as I loved this, I don't think this ep was as successful as the first ep of last season. Part of that is just a function of the characters being separated...really should have extended this episode by a bit. I mean, if you take out the 3 1/2 minute wrap-up of the first season, this was only 52 minutes long, and felt rushed in parts.

That said, I loved it, and am sure things will only be on more solid ground after this set-up of an episode.

yea i was just thinking that if ever a show would benefit from a two hour premiere itd be this one because there are too many characters and too much to setup to get anything done in an hour
it obviously gets better as the show gets momentum going in a certain direction, but it clearly takes some effort to get there

The kids really seem to have grown since last season. I don't recall Joffrey being as tall as Cersei before. Bran and Arya as well. For someone who is supposed to be posing as a boy, this is a bad time to be getting boobs.

mother of fuck why was arya only in it for like 2 seconds? her storyline's the best thing about the second book. in fact, the best thing in the whole damn saga.
still, did a pretty good job of introducing everyone - that's going to get pretty hard by about season 4. 2hr premieres do seem the way forward.

stannis scene would have bewildered me if i hadn't read the books, and he's the only one who looks wrong for the part. if anything, i imagined stannis looking like liam cunningham.

one concern, though - if there's going to be this much plot every week, when are they going to find the time for gratuitous nudity?

Can we just put some sort of code in this thread where posts including the word "book" or "books" are replaced by surfing Barney?

yeah i was bummed we didnt get an extended premiere

still pretty happy I get to tune into "A Sword of Tits" every sunday for a while

when there's nothing good on tv I don't really feel it too much since theres so much out there to watch but it really is nice to have a nice little prize waiting for me every sunday to dull the pain of the impending work week

I imagined Stannis as looking like old Picard from All Good Things, but Liam Cunningham is a lot better

this occurred in True Blood s1 to s2 that where the gratuitous nudity goes down rapidly after being a fairly successful HBO show. though i don't mean to suggest these two shows are even close on the same level of quality

it was great and all, but it felt more like a mid-season s1 episode than a premiere to s2.

I'm not sure how I could have spoiled anything if I've never read the books.

Also, these threads are for discussing the most recent episode. If people are coming in here without having watched the most recent episode, and THAT gets spoiled for them, that's their own fault.

edit: but if you see something that I wrote that you think is a spoiler, I'd be glad to edit it away.

It was mostly cause you were in the argument and I didn't want to read it too indepthly. I'll take you off the list on a probationary basis.

I understand. In the Season 1 thread, I seem to remember having to skim posts before fully reading them because some people weren't following the "no spoilers" rule, and it would suck to have to do it again in this thread.

I even hate spoilers so much that I always avoid watching the promo ads for upcoming weeks.

"NEXT WEEK on GAME OF THRONES...!"

I don't want to know until it actually happens, so I turn off the TV.
