Unibroue has a few things I can find relativity easily and inexpensively. Ephemere and La Fin Du Monde always sound good to me. A lot of things from Stone are pretty good go to beers. Also, Upland's Wheat Ale and Bell's Two Hearted Ale are pretty good standbys too.

I haven't had a la fin du monde in a really long time, but I remember it was my introduction to belgian-style beers. I guess over the years I just got used to seeing it on grocery store shelves without appreciating how awesome it was that I could find it so easily. Probably time to revisit that one.

La Fin du Monde is so weird. Like. I would probably still consider it my favorite beer, but it's not like I internally get all giddy when I think of it compared to Hopslam or KBS or something. It's just such a fuckign smooth, great tripel. Very easy to enjoy. Could drink it forever, etc.

Yeah, I feel the same way. I think this has to do with how ubiquitous it is. The other ones you named are rare/seasonal treats whereas La Fin du Monde is almost always there when you want it and you don't even have to go to a fancy beer store or beverage depot to get it. Most high alcohol belgians give me headaches if they're too high in fusel alcohols, but not LFdM; it's pretty fantastic to have it so available when you think about it.

It seems like La Fin Du Monde as well as Three Philosophers are the gateway beers for a lot of folks, whether it's in regards to Belgian style or craft beer in general. La Fin Du Monde is really accessible, but unlike stuff like Chimay, it really lives up to the hype.

Have we talked about the new widgetless left hand nitro bottles yet?

Even with a cautious, gradual pour their bottles yield way under-carbed beer. This was as poured by myself at a bar and their rep doing a demo at Whole Foods.

Maybe I/they didn't know what they were doing?

The bottle says to pour hard (not cautiously). I always crack them and tip the bottle full 180 and let it gulp into the glass aggressively. I always get great results.

I mean, the only LH beer I've had and really dug was The Stranger, which isn't exactly a complex beer.

I'm not a big left hand guy. Hell I wasn't even that big on the not nitro milk stout, but I had the nitro on tap and loved it. Besides the fact that they made a widget less nitro bottle, I still think this beer holds up from a bottle.

I got a sixer of the LH Nitro Milk Stout. I liked it, at least as something different. I'm amused that landspeedrecord wondered why his carefully poured beer seemed under-carbonated.

Yeah I didn't read the bottle, so I wasn't getting the correct effect from the widget, but you pour all your beers vigorously?

Well, first of all there is no widget. That is what is amazing
Second, no I don't pour any other beer that way.

I've been wanting to get my hands on something from Pretty Things for a while and surprisingly, I managed to find two of their beers here in Louisville just recently. I tried Lovely Saint Winefride a couple of weeks ago. I'm not a big fan of lagers, so I wasn't too surprised at how lackluster I found it to be. I'm trying Babayaga right now and it's okay, but nothing I would make an effort to seek out again. But with that aside I'd still really like to try Our Finest Regards, Hedgerow Bitter, Fluffy White Rabbits and Jack D'or.
