What's your vinyl setup like?

Jesus christ you have to be kidding me.

Postby transitive » Tue Apr 10, 2012 2:41 pm

Not so much what gear you are using, but where in your apt/house/cardboard box do you have your turntable and speakers situated? We have ours in our living room but our TV is also in there and my fiance uses it a lot for work/writing/Bravo. Thinking of moving it all to our actual office on the other side of the house.

Zutroy don't reply to this thread.

when the baby was born i moved all my instruments & vinyl upstairs to my finished attic room (pathetic man cave). i have cube shelving thats about half full, holding around 300 records. turntable sits on an old desk with speakers on either side. its a pretty good setup, but basically gets ignored bc the wife hates in when i hibernate up there.
I get the satisfaction out of completing a project. And I paint people's pets. And I love to give them their pet as a gift.

My turntable/stereo/records are in my office, which is just off of our living room. The speakers are in the living room.

This is basically what we have right now. But like I said, the living room is sort of my fiance's space for her grad school stuff so it's hard for me to get away with putting a Thin Lizzy record on while she's writing about Joseph Beuys.

I'm convinced the EXPEDIT was created specifically for record collectors -everyone I know who has records has one. I have 3 of them.

Got mine set up in the living room on a 2x2 expedit next to the armchair, where I run into the same problem of interfering with my girlfriend's TV watching, but it's situated so I can have it playing after she goes to bed and not wake her but still hear it from the kitchen when I get home before she does, which is the best I can do until I can afford a bigger place.

I do, however, have to wage a constant war against the cats who seem to take intense pleasure from walking on the turntable and/or pushing records out of the shelves, which is less than fun.

i have a full 2x4. i would consider stepping up to a 4x4 but i'm afraid of that thing falling apart when it gets full. i almost bought this one and put my turntable in the middle but i decided that it would be a terrible idea to trust ikea with all my records AND audio gear:

(this is not my setup, just an example of the unit)

$1,200/mo but it's in Old City, one of the most expensive neighborhoods. The only reason it's so cheap is because the landlord is some old lady that a) has no idea how much she could rent her apartments for and b) just wants nice tenants that will stay for a while. Also she asked skittish if he was a movie star.

I swear to god, every time I walk into a record store I think of you. I want all of the records but I do think about long-term storage ramifications, perhaps obsessively.

I pretty died after this point.

I never want to pay that much.

For anything ever. :(

I'll take pictures of my set-up once it's cleaned up a bit, but I'm nearing capacity for my current arrangement in the office. I'm thinking of building a small rack so the turntable/receiver/power amplifier are in the living room where there's more space.

bread astaire, I like that thought because I am going into far fewer record stores now that the little baby requires my presence.

We pay $575 total (and even that is too much for what this place is)

>_>

[edit] Yes, I know I live in fucking Louisville and not Philly/NYC
