The firearms industry seems to rely on people being fearful and fear of crime along racial lines seems to be a good vector for fear in America.

The people who founded America were basically untitled aristocrats that thought that the notion of a ban on private warfare in favour of sovereign power was not a good trade-off because they were after committing treason over taxation.

Mites and I are working on a much more articulate version of all of this but there's a reason that the rest of the developed world doesn't have firearms available this readily, and it's empirically not because the people are less racist in Europe.
