that's just treachery. shoulda played her "demons sing love songs"

Actually it was December. Once she didn't like "We Invent You" I knew it wasn't going to work out.

this is giving me flashbacks to the time i road tripped with my sister and thought it would be a good idea to subject her to this album instead of just settling for the radio (no gra)
Pretty dope... and those shrooms were tight as fuck.

wait, i thought taking "what's your name, who's your daddy" literally meant she was offended because she thought the singer was talking to a little girl.

No it's offensive because who the fuck talks to a grown woman like that you patronizing piece of shit, I hope you get hit by a bus.

(the lyricist, not you)

I used to like this a lot but got tired of it. Should revisit.

Ministry - the Land of Rape and Honey
Soft Cell - Sex Dwarf

I know I've heard both of these but I can't remember anything at all about them, good or bad.

I don't think I've heard the other ones on your list.

I'm not terribly interested in music. Usually I work with earplugs in.

subjected my girlfriend to "leaves turn inside you" in the car recently, she asked "does this ever end?"
the spirit of this thread is the total death-wish. it frightens me. people are laughing about this, because they are idiots, just idiots.

I looked this up on youtube because I don't remember it at all and it's not that bad. I don't remember why I told you to turn it off.

It is true that I sure as shit wouldn't listen to this on my own though.

so what's the non literal defense of the line? that the singer's just joking around?

i feel like an alien.

i think he's literally asking who your daddy is. i don't think "who's your daddy?" meant the same thing then as it does now. it didn't have the same sexual connotations or whatever.

i mean it probably was meant vaguely sexually (like a freudian thing or whatever), but not exactly in the same way as it would be meant today.

The defense is that it isn't actually ("literally") Argent asking if some woman's father (or boyfriend) is rich.

RA Time of the Season was the last thing to be written. I remember thinking it sounded very commercial. One of my favourite records was George Gershwin's Summertime; we used to do a version of it when we started out. The words in the verse - "What's your name? Who's your daddy? Is he rich like me?" - were an affectionate nod in that direction.

right, and taken in that context you could even suggest "is he rich like me?" implies a metaphysical play on the idea, though it's light on that regardless. it's very tongue in cheek

I'm definitely going to have to work up some courage before trying Big Star again.

But we're driving to Nantucket this summer and if you can't play Big Star on a road trip in July what is even.
