when did archie become a manga?
Anyway, you know what time it is: time to throw on an old Belle and Sebastian tune and have have a good cleansing and transformational cry.

On April 4, 2003, Dad's Garage Theatre Company in Atlanta was scheduled to debut a new play, Archie's Weird Fantasy, which depicted Riverdale's most famous resident coming out of the closet and moving to New York. The day before the play was scheduled to open, Archie Comics issued a cease and desist order, threatening litigation if the play proceeded as written. Dad's Garage artistic director Sean Daniels said, "The play was to depict Archie and his pals from Riverdale growing up, coming out and facing censorship. Archie Comics thought if Archie was portrayed as being gay, that would dilute and tarnish his image."

I remember in one of my sisters' Archie things there was a story where like Veronica was really mad because everyone else knows how to do things like actual gardening or fixing a fence or changing a tire or whatever and she complains to her dad that being rich makes you stupid. It was about then that I realized that I couldn't do those things either and that in fact it's being stupid that makes you stupid.

i can't find the panels right now but the earliest stuff (1940s) is the most risque

there's an amazing bit with veronica changing in the back of the car when archie is driving her from the airport, and her bare leg is sticking straight up from the back seat, pin-up style

Jughead must be used as some kind of cartoonist fantasy self-insert character, right?

the little devil telling Archie "life's just a BAD TRIP!" is awesome. that'd make a good tattoo actually.

I love that Moose is a part of the #occupyriverdale movement and Jughead seems to be the compromised voice of reason.

Like everyone else is always in these trendy things that look dated before they're inked let alone coloured but Jughead is always in this like disheveled narrow-cut black tie stuff. It's a very good look.

Also hilariously whenever one of the gang had to go hippie or mod or punk or whatever it was always Jughead.

Archie Comics sued music duo The Veronicas for trademark infringement in 2005 over the band's name, which Archie Comics alleges was taken from the comic book character. Archie Comics and Sire Records (The Veronicas' record company) finally resolved their problems through a co-promotion deal
