The movie did suffer a little from following the book too closely while still fitting all the moments into 1 movie. The movie also doesn't quite solve the problem that a lot of the book is the internal thoughts of Katniss, but overall I still liked it. I thought all the stuff before the actual hunger games was really well done for the most part. Curious to see how on earth they adopt the next 2 books.

Movies was totally decent and I agree with Gambra

Movie could have been out of this world if rated r, too bad even an unrated version wouldn't be able to get too grisly they way it was filmed

So I watched this because a good friend of mine is crazy about the books and wanted me to see it so she could talk to me about it

Afterward she called, then hung up when I started complaining and sent me a text which said, 'Usually I can tolerate your snobbery, but when you shit all over something I really enjoy it pisses me off. Take your miserable, elitist attitude to the blogs or chat rooms or wherever the elitists go and talk about how you are too cool and smart to enjoy anything.'

And now here I am

I'm pretty sure the only people who are going to really enjoy this movie have already read and really enjoyed the books

The stuff gambra posted on the last page is exactly what I was wondering about and I just didn't give a single shit about any of the characters within the games living or dying, especially the Peeta kid and the little girl whose death was supposed to be so tragic despite only being onscreen for about six or seven minutes with no back story

I'd have rather just watched Woody Harrelson slum around, get drunk and hang out with Kravitz for two hours

people realize that if you could volunteer for hunger games then thousands of people would do it, right? like sure, some tiny fragment of the population but there are people out there who are attention whores, egomaniacs who think they'll win, people volunteering to take the place of loved ones like this katniss bitch, people who wanna rep they district, just plain fucking crazy/suicidal people, whatever

there's mad reasons. no one would ever get chosen randomly

you realize that it's kids being sent to the hunger games and most parents probably wouldn't give their children a 1 in 24 chance at not being killed. Just thinking for 5 seconds would probably help you realize this.

A number of the participants in each game are regularly volunteers, in any case.

Yeah, Toddlers and Tiaras is totally the same thing as sending your kid to almost certain death for the entertainment of people who have been brutally repressing you for the last 70 years.

The whole dog thing was incredibly eye-roll inducing. But the only real problem I had other than that was that apparently Gary Ross has no idea how to show a fight scene. Maybe it was to make sure it would be solidly PG-13 but it was damn near impossible to actually see what was going on during any sort of scuffle. extreme close-ups and steady cams forever.

This was okay and felt really long. Pacing was enough to make me insane. Had no idea why I should care about any of the characters. Or why there's even a game at all
If this were more subversive and bloody, it would be memorable. Instead it just avoided completely sucking

the very beginning gave a brief background of why they had the games

i dont think it can be lamented enough how much better some of the scenes (particularly the start of the games) would be if it wasn't pg-13/aimed at tween girls

I caught the opening scroll but it still made no sense. Granted, it's not a big deal as I'm willing to accept that the games exist and make sense in their society. But the half baked 'rebellion' and the show's role in the districts were both unexplored

even as is, though, the depravity of little kids being rent asunder for no good reason with metal sharp things was pretty affecting. The ever evolving rules of the game and the concept of volunteering as was earlier mentioned... wtf

we tried to see a bollywood movie about a sperm donor but there were no subtitles so we saw this.

i don't think it's possible for a movie with jennifer lawrence to be regrettable, but the interesting setup was indeed wasted. i was pretty curious where the socioeconomic message (ruling class makes the poor fight for their entertainment and calls it patriotism/honor) would go, but it petered out in the second half.

do you think the emotional manipulation of the games by the capitol-dwellers was intentionally reflexive of the filmmakers' manipulations?
