Yeah Cyclops dying wouldn't be a massive deal. He's been a dick since I started reading X Men books. There's probably one or two of the Avengers that could be killed off, I mean they outnumber the X Men in the inside page thingy in the AvX books like 2 to 1. Has to be some that won't be missed at all.

cyclops' character arc would complete itself pretty tidily by having him martyr himself to repower all the mutants

the dynamic of the x-men books afterwards would be pretty interesting because xavier and magneto's legacies would sort of get dwarfed by cyclops' legacy and the entire culture of mutantkind would be substantially different

i think ultimately there's no way not to have the x-men "win" AvX

the preview blurbs for fraction's hawkeye series seem to imply that the avengers aren't feeling too good about themselves after the crossover ends anyway, so that pretty strongly implies that they "lose" somehow

Yeah, I got that, I meant when he showed back up mid-issue and everyone was surprised to see him after he died, and then they all just kinda forgot to ask how he came back from the dead. Did they not actually see him die/know he died? I can't remember what happened in his death issue.

I may have to re-read it, cuz the preparatory AvX stuff has already kind of eclipsed that arc in my memory; but, I don't remember anyone actually seeing Eric die, either.

characters that can be killed that no one cares about

spiderwoman. like who would even give a fuck? didn't she just start randomly fucking one of them? snooooooze.
Doctor strange. great character, but they haven't done shit with him other than take away his title.
war machine. really interesting character that is doing nothing right now. They could probably resurrect him easily.
Luke cage is doing nothing. everyone is still waiting on that baby subplot. give him his own book, or kill him off.
mockingbird, because like who cares.



The best thing they can do is actually make cyclops a righteous villain.
cyclops saves day, but kills some avengers, responsible for the death of civilians, resurrects a shit load of mutants.
cyclops on the run. the world actually having a reason to fear the rise of mutants. Utopia no more.
the xmen and avengers having no choice but to hunt him down at some point in the future.

Cyclops as the villian/hero making some real compromises and fucking shit up.
The world knows the avengers botched shit up and fearful of the xmen now led by magneto and xavier.
x-force being forced to take care of secret missions for cyclops and putting wolverine in a difficult place.

There's a marvel future set of books that i would bee interested in reading.

the idea of space avengers vs the phoenix, prof x showing up with some ace up his sleeve, hope host fake-out, wolverine fighting cap instead, gladiator showing up to save his son, some nova corps stuff.............tons of things about this are much more exciting than magneto vs iron man or cap vs fuckin gambit

Yeah, my biggest fear is AvX just turns into Secret Invasion and the main X-Men/Avengers just fight on Utopia for 11 issues.
