Woman tosses puppy from balcony, laughs at officers

Police say an East Garfield Park woman threw a puppy off her third-floor balcony, breaking its leg, then laughed about it in front of arresting officers.

Jamille Marshall, 22, told police she and a friend found the yellow pit bull mix puppy on her balcony around 9:30 a.m. Monday. “They tossed the dog off the balcony because they said it wasn’t theirs and they didn’t want it,’’ said Harrison District Police Lt. John Andrews.

The dog broke its front left leg and had “severe difficulty walking,’’ the lieutenant said.

Marshall laughed when officers arrested her, Andrews said. "The Chicago Police Department must have better things to do than worry about a dog,’’ Andrews quoted her as saying.

The dog was taken to the Animal Care and Control for treatment. “They’re going to fix it,’’ Andrews said.

One of the responding officers has decided to adopt the dog, he said. “It’s good that the dog is going to survive and have a good home."

Marshall, of the 3100 block of West Monroe Street, was charged with one felony count of aggravated cruelty to animals and is scheduled to appear in court Thursday.

My dad told me once about how in the late sixties he and my Uncle Mac were drinking beers on a 10th floor balcony in Port Canaveral with some dudes that were trying to sell them a car. A little kitten walks out onto the balcony and one of the guys selling the car picks it up and tosses it off the balcony, real casual. My Uncle Mac, the instant the kitten left the guys hand, shatters the dude's jaw. My dad prevented the other guy from attacking my Uncle. The kitten died, and somehow the police forgot to charge my Uncle with assault and battery, but the kitten killer did get charged with animal cruelty and in fact did go to jail for a while.

While I am at it, another instance of animal cruelty: an evil kid that bullied my friend Bobby took his kitten, Snowball, and put him in the microwave for like 20 seconds. The cat did not die, but it was never the same, and it used to fall off of Bobby's dock all of the time and would drag itself back into the house all soaking wet. It was an adorable cat despite its obvious defects. The guy who put the kitten in the microwave almost died in a motorcycle accident a few years later, and I hear now that he has moved to California to start a marijuana plantation. He had always been a sociopath.

One time I was at this dbag's house buying weed and there were cats and kittens everywhere. At one point he picks one up and starts telling me how he found it under their house surrounded by thousands of spiders and spider egg nests (totally terrifying). After they got the little guy inside they gave it a bath and microwaved it for a minute. As the turd is telling me this he's laughing, presumably thinking that I think it's cool that he did this, but when I scold him and ask what in the fuck is wrong with him, he replies with "It was literally only like a minute -- look, he's fine!"
