No, that was pretty funny, even if it's not something you'd actually want to watch.

the Nightmare on Elm Street remake is a tricky thing with me because I love that franchise
it's already ruined for me because it exists, so now I can go into it trying to enjoy it--but really fuck this. a 5'5 Freddy who looks like Mason Verger and speaks just like Rorschach isn't really gonna mesh with this "we're dropping the comedy and making this terrifying" bit.
all my frustration aside, i'm sure i'll be there opening weekend as I was for the Friday the 13th remake, but I don't really care about those movies at all (except VIII which is pretty awesome)
maybe i'll be pleasantly surprised, but the only thing i see working is Connie Britton as Mrs. Thompson

i'm lookingforward to clash of the titans just cuz the original was dumb as shit anyway, and im rooting for sam worthington as an action hero, and a neeson/fiennes ham off sounds like it could be entertaining.
admittedly the metal thread has recently taken a hit

He wants to take advantage of modern technology (cg). I imagine that the studio was looking for any director to remake The Fly, so he picked it up himself so he could fool around with computers and save his horrid fly child.

I mean, it could be worse. The Videodrome remake is unfathomable. I can't imagine how an exec could watch a movie with so much S&M and stomach vaginas and think it could sell to a new audience. They say that it's going to be more of an action movie involving "nanotechnology" (which is, what, I dunno), but if it's going to be so different they might as well call it Cellphonearena or Internetcube cause it's not like many Friday night filmgoers are that familiar with the Videodrome title to begin with.

"The new picture will modernize the concept, infuse it with the possibilities of nano-technology and blow it up into a large-scale sci-fi action thriller."

oh wow what a nightmare
the writers of sex and the city might as well remake crash as a romantic comedy about driving
wow all these people are going to hell!

I think the issue is more "hollywood screenwriters, do you really not know what nanotechnology is," to which the answer is pretty obvious.

I can see someone taking "television that kills people" and "gun grafted to hand" and thinking that sounded like some ok sci-fi action thriller material, but yeah, at what point was someone like "well, if we're going to sell this, we're going to need to call it Videodrome. People aren't going to want to see it otherwise."
I pay tax to help pay for things like police..fire..parks..but it goes to Ferguson like people and foreigners who are scamming our stupid government that is full of pasta thieves like this guy

I was under the impression that the Fly remake was just a rumor for now and might even be DOA (i really hope so)... Cronenberg's about to start work on The Talking Cure, starring Viggo as Freud and Michael Fassbender as Carl Jung.

There was also the rumor that he was going to do a Robert Ludlum adaptation starring Tom Cruise and Denzel Washington but thank fuck that also doesn't look like it's happening anymore.

Not sure why everyone thought this was a mismatch. Munich showed a predilection for the pointless gratuity that was Oldboy's signature. Spielberg isn't wasting his talents on this, thankfully.
