I'm not 100% happy with Obama, but I think saying he's a sucky president is a bit overblown. His accomplishments on health care, while not the grand slam we would have liked, are more than anyone's got done since the 60s. At heart, he's a centrist and a pragmatist, and that's going to be frustrating, but I can't think of another candidate from 2008, republican or democrat, I would have rather had.

I don't think we should compare Obama to a hypothetical ideal candidate but rather the actual alternative candidates.

i think it's fair to compare Obama to Obama, and I'd be happier with him meeting us closer to half way. But I'm just disappointed, not in the "sucky" camp.

Health care mandate with no government option.

Yeah, but that was a legislative issue, not something he could personally implement. There's no government option because of Ben Nelson and Joe Lieberman. There's a mandate because otherwise forbidding private insurers from denying those with preexisting conditions doesn't work.
