Oof no way. Theyve done quite enough pummeling in just 14 episodes or whatever it’s been. they need to change gears and I’m hopeful by even the end of this season they point the ship somewhere else

I kind of loved this episode despite one or two goofy moments. That was surely Nick's last hurrah. He shouldn't have told Luke his name.Toggle Spoiler

Canadian government turning on a dime like that was pretty ridiculous. There's no way those unverified (to them) letters reveal anything their own intelligence (and community of US ex-pats) hadn't already told them about the state of affairs in Gilead. And they can't go with "Well we knew about this and were playing realpolitik but now that these letters leaked we've got a PR crisis! Sorry about that!" cos of the obvious change in demeanor of the canadians towards the waterfords

more interesting to me than most recent episodes i liked seeing a little more about how other nations relate to Gilead! still the dumb cinematography, still the unbelievably dumb episode-ending emotionface montage with a jarring music transition

the color grading is getting pretty damn obnoxious. the differences between the Canada and Gilead stuff was nuts; it's obviously just a too-on-the-nose stylistic choice to contrast the locales that i have to calm my dumb brain down about by saying "eh, the sky's always brown cos of nuclear dust"

for an intelligence officer, nick's a real doofus

like, just croak out a "Yeah miss ya too okay bye" with a peck on the cheek to your ticking time bomb child bride before she rats you out for being a letter-smuggling gender traitor

“I roughed it out to about 10 seasons when I was first working on it,” Miller reveals.

“I see a world beyond [the current one]. I would watch an episode about the Nuremberg trials after Gilead falls. There are lots of worlds you think of: ‘I would love that season — seasons eight, nine or 10, where everything has changed so much.'”

yeah it’s miserable. i had to check flux wasn’t on after the cut to gilead even though i knew we’d just been in Blue Land. between that and the handicam this show has no relationship to anyone’s perception of the world anymore

Yeah, there's no reason to just be an outward dick to her. Either on a moral or a plotting level. I mean, I know she supports a terrible fascist regime but a) she doesn't know any better and b) what would the problem be just being, like, generally kind to her?

I guess you could say the closer he gets to her, the more chance there is he'll say or do something stupid? That his real feelings will spill out and she'll realize that he isn't a true believer. But as everyone has said: she's instead been treated so poorly that she's likely to turn on him anyway, so...?

these transitions are starting to really really bug me. i get that it's intentional, but the abrupt shift is sooo meaningless.

Fuck. This episode... is was... fuck.

Also, it was only in reading a recap that I realized this wasn't the season finale. Season 1 had 10 episodes, I assumed so did this one. But no, it appears it might be 12 or 13? Stuff like Wikipedia isn't helping on this and neither is Googling but it's clear it wasn't the finale from the recaps. I was fascinated by it as a finale. But I think I'm not 100% ready for another one any time soon. We'll see if a week off changes my mind.

Also, I continue to feel awful for Eden. I mean, obviously, I feel the worst for June in this episode but of course. But Eden is being so utterly mistreated by Nick at this point that it makes me dislike him, in spite of anything he may try and say or do positive for June and others. I get that he doesn't want a creepy child bride but fuck dude, why oh why can't you be at all nice?

It's 13

I thought this was the finale as well. Yvonne was doing a press tour promoting the season finale last week.

I guess Nick's position as an Eye means he basically has dirt on everyone, now including Eden, which might explain his laissez faire attitude toward being nice to her.
