I wish I knew Cherry's personal shopper, it wouldn't be hard to convince him to wear a Fishman patterned suit jacket. Not that we'd want that pattern on a national symbol for xenophobia I guess.

I'm happy to report that my experience in Camden was considerably better than any time i'd been there. Riding the ferry was a big part of that, skipping all the traffic and confusing chaos before and after. There were no bathroom lines or booze lines (although long booze lines would have helped my night) And I even had a lot of dancing room at the very front of the lawn, and the sound was wonderful. I didn't feel that lawn claustrophobia that I felt at well attended shows.

stupid booze.

Well I had a very nice time at the BB&T Pavilion last night. It was smelly and extremely hot under that roof. I enjoyed seeing Guy for a spell.

Thought they stretched all those first set type 1 to their absolute limit to then blow out the gates off with the Everything’s Right. Also was hearing a lot of kinetic rolling 93-style jamming in the carini and split (my first). Don’t remember the specifics of the Soul Free, but I liked that too.

The 93 sound I was hearing was probably from a really punchy Mike. He was really driving

that really was a fantastic Melt... gonna listen back the last handful in 16 & 17, see if there was a trajectory to the song that I had missed

like Stash earlier in 3.0 I had been enjoying the jams themselves for a while (I don’t dare listen back to those 09 Melts tho..), but there were VERY few versions in this era that had fireworks endings OR type 2 diversions in lieu of that.. 10/12/10, 7/6/13..? MPP had a good one in 13 or 14?

VHG I just had a crazy nap fever dream where I was looking after your apartment for a few hours because you had an outlet that was making noises and you didn’t want it to burn down.. I pulled a Vonnegut book from your bookshelf to read, fell asleep, and drooled on your couch. I’m sorry.

also you had long black swooping hair for some reason, but it was definitely you.

also it was your bed I drooled on, I don’t know why lied about that if it didn’t really happen. but in the dream I didn’t want you to know I was not only reading on your bed but drooling on your pillow.

joke’s on me though - the whole time I was napping in my bed and drooling on my own pillow.

Utica was really the big Melt story of 3.0 forever wasn’t it?

My gut says these two 2018 versions are descendants of Coventry somehow

some of the things I’ve got as festival essentials are:
-head lamp
-night lights / camp lights
-ez up for day shade
-ground cloth for when you’re high so you’re not just laying on the ground at your campsite
-shade cloths or tapestries for ez up
-captain’s chairs
-battery chargers and/or an alternator/converter for the car to leech off of that (leach? they both make sense, but I believe it’s the former)
-light on perishable food, heavy on snacks and peanut butter

some shows I’ll always be a little mad at myself for and I’ll sort of ignore listening to.. which helps nothing, so don’t do that.. that’s usually when I don’t remember the end of a show or remember getting stuck in a loop (10/26/10, 7/2/11, 8/17/10, 6/8/11, and more)

but then there’s ones I got pretty damn fucked up at but had good company at and was quite assured of my safety, that I didn’t ruin anyone’s show or put me or someone else at risk (I never do, my drunk instincts are very positive, but I obsessively ruminate when I can’t remember a stretch).. often there are good stories of things I said or did from these nights, and I look back more fondly on them (6/17/10, 8/16/15, 7/22/17, etc)

Oh right. I know feeling regrets is unavoidable sometimes, but try not to beat yourself up too much, we've allllll been there. It will pass in time, just try and eat healthy and get lots of sleep.

Thanks, I was super tired and went to bed early and my brain was like NOPE.

so here I am.

going to try to sleep again soon.

anyway, I loved the first set! And it cured my BB&T phobia, which has kept me from Mayer and Co. and some other shows.

and Jewels if you’re ever going to a show and don’t want to drink I’m happy to be a sober buddy if I’m also going.. sober shows are really great, I often offer to DD on the first night of a run because my I’m coming in with energy and excitement that can override my anxiety, and it results in a really wonderful headspace for a show, and I’ll often turn down joints even because I don’t want to change a thing
