nyc guys, how'd you like the governor's island show?

thought they were great, but wish they had a longer set. And of course no rat or savages...

The sound and the crowd blew. One of the shittiest crowds i've ever experienced, but what do you expect, I guess.

If the other times I saw them weren't so incredibly awesome, I'd be less disappointed. Seeing the walkmen in the rain should be a pretty neat experience, but the sound/people just sucked where I was.

sorry to hear that zurich, I know you were looking forward to it.

I was right up in front and surprisingly I heard everything pretty well. Could have been clearer of course but no sound complaints from me

All around me I heard people asking who they were, or shouting for the rat or freebird.. pretty terrible but I was in rapture. Seeing them again in October and I'm beyond excited.

agreed on the nyc show. they have some gaps on the tour schedule where it looks like they could fill a few in if they really wanted to..

And yeah, I was on the first boat out there, got to watch the excruciating gang gang dance soundcheck in full. I left before Grizzly Bear started playing, figure I'd beat the traffic and get something afterwards. No regrets there.

grizzly bear were about 2x better than the last time I saw them, about 2 years ago. I was in the front row, far right, for their whole set, and just behind that for the walkmen. I thought sound was good where i was, but it definitely sucked when I was in the back buying beer / peeing

man, how good is that drummer. just ridiculous. watching him play is such a joy, he looks so psyched playing angela in every video i've seen/last night.

both bands last night, awesome drummers.

-first time seeing the walkmen. didn't expect a long set or great sound, didn't get either. "all hands and the cook" was the clear highlight for me, with "in the new year" close behind. nothing from the first two albums was weird but not a surprise i guess. band was clearly irritated by the mix for the first few songs.

-grizzly bear were unbelievable. seriously fucking unbelievable. was kind of getting bored with their albums but their live show is something to be seen. what was their first song and last song?

-VIP section was nice, especially early when there weren't many people there and it was easy to see/hear/sit. boatload of b-list indie rock celebs hanging around. front of line for ferry there and back was primo too.

their first song must have been new or off some ep, I had never heard it. how'd you get VIP, buzz?

walkmen set for those interested (order as best as I remember):

blue as your blood
angela
on the water
all hands and the cook
in the new year
stranded
canadian girl
woe is me
juveniles

did they play victory? i can't remember.

Shit I arrived just as blue as your blood started, that sucks if I missed a new song. Woe is Me was earlier than that, and no victory, which I feel like would be better live. Juveniles is becoming my fav on the album (except for title track) just for those splashy drums, it was a great closer

Looking back on this thread and on my post on page one, went from casual fan to the walkmen being my favorite current band. Seems like so long ago

Good vibes in this thread, thanks dudes

new songs had a weird vibe live. didn't peak as much as a lot of their old stuff. love it on the album but the dynamic was kind of anticlimactic live. i'm sure they'll work it out over the next tour.

yeah, angela did not hit half as good as on the record, but it's much better in that fallon performance. the guitar was just so weak...probably doesn't sound that great at bigger venues in general, to be honest. when the organ comes in it sounds like 3 times bigger in the fallon clip.

the album in general doesn't peak as much as their older stuff. lisbon has such an awesome climax but it's not even that all out. I kind of wish it was bigger.

for what it's worth, grizzly bear setlist was something along these lines:

new song
southern point
cheerleader
lullabye
little brother
fine for now
knife
two weeks
ready, able
i live with you
foreground
on a neck, on a spit
while you wait for the others
new/old song?
