Saget must be really exhausting to hang out with. He tries to be funny way more than he actually is funny.

mencia and dane cook were really great. studies in contrast. mencia came across as a stone cold sociopath, where dane cook just comes across as a bro whod be fun to hang out with

you guys ever watch the kevin pollak show? episodes are way too long for my tastes, but there have been a few good interviews. Plus it's got that Jewish kid from freaks and geeks

I listen to the audio version of the Kevin Pollak show. It's great if you're interested in the guest. I do usually skip the 10-15 minute ramp up to introducing the guest, though.

Edit: As far as newer stuff goes, been loving Walking the Room lately. Greg Behrendt and Dave Anthony mercilessly ragging on each other for 45 minutes, interspersed with random stories from their stand-up careers, etc.

I'm with badhat on the Janeane Garofalo thing. I couldn't stay interested. Her political views are just so incoherent. The thing where she made sweeping generalizations about how terrible large media companies are then turned around and made a special exemption for Rachel Maddow for no reason just made me realize there wasn't going to be anything well thought out being said there.

it did get more interesting when she talked more about her insecurities about it, but then it went into her being a grown woman and having a fucking anxiety attack on an airplane for 4 hours cuz someone didnt like her stand up, and then spent the rest of the time blaming her politics for her fading star. ive just never heard of being a leftie being held against an entertainer in hollywood... i mean cmon man... being clueless and sanctimonious could have been a problem though

C'mon dude. The blacklist and HUAC didn't hold it against people?

Broadly speaking of course I know what you're saying, but I do think her politics and her way of presenting them (which I think is the better point you brought up) had at least something to do with her career going downhill.

She didn't completely contextualize what she was going through in the period where she had the crying attack on the plane, though - she's talked in other interviews about having death threats made against her, having to keep private security, being harassed during/after shows, being ambushed during what was supposed to be a routine guest spot on a FOX News morning show, etc. I mean the point of that story was that 1) people often don't regard entertainers/celebs as normal human beings with emotions, fears, doubts, etc. and therefore sometimes speak in a really casually cruel manner and 2) that it wasn't really the guy's fault, that it didn't help certainly, but that this was bigger than just the isolated things he said.

I enjoyed the interview greatly, but I guess I can see where her stances are kinda fish in a barrel if you're so inclined.

of right i should have mentioned the 50s.

i guess i didnt think it neeeded to be said but yeah obviously being a liberal was a liability in the 50s, but can you think of it hurting anybody in the past 20+ years? we've indulged so much goofy leftist activisms from dumb celebrities i the past 20-30 years..

her politics werent offensive, or threatening, theyre just dumb.

and the complex about people hating her for it is so misguided, cuz I hate her for the stupid shit she says even though i'm sympathetic to the broader positions sometimes. but not for being leftist, or even for fancying herself as REALLY leftist, but for being smug and reactionary and petty and naive. cuz shes not actually nearly as out there as she likes to think she is. shes not all that radical left, shes just obnoxious.
