also no one votes for vp, and he didn't *do* anything as vp for anyone to have an opinion on

I'd just like to take a moment to stop an appreciate that despite all this general horribleness, we currently have two serious progressive candidates for US president who are tripping all over themselves to come up with the most progressive platform and that's something that hasn't ever happened in my entire lifetime

but they do, that's what i'm referring to, the literal punching of the ballot, twice, for joe biden, is not something to be discounted because it was "only" for VP.

not if joe spends the entire primary talking about how well he gets along with segregationists or condescendingly shitting on people who have student and medical debt, two issues that are very much at the forefront for the majority of the "obama coalition" which was mostly POC and voters under 30.

bernie and particularly, warren, are not polling well with african american voters and i'm not sure how they plan on breaking through to what is now biden's stronghold.

there’s a path for bernie with the debates coupled with people starting to pay attention which most aren’t yet

hillary was up ~20 in june 2007 with basically the same coalition biden has. it is true that older voters of color in particular historically can be very conservative about coming around to candidates -- even obama, a once-in-a-generation talent -- but i do not think this is an impossible task, especially with so many candidates in the race

hillary was polling better with POC too, and POC turnout had a huge decline in 2016 and it was a big part of why she lost.

the declining poc turnout in milwaukee was enough to help her lose wisconsin, for example

i don't have a sure-fire plan, but running candidates that don't spend the majority of their time scolding the people that they need to vote for them seems like a good start, as is running candidates who might actually be able to make inroads with grassroots groups that are already good at voter mobilization, which is a lot easier to do if you have a platform that's consistent with things that groups are already working on.

biden's best chance for success is not doing public appearances at all and just allowing voter's imaginary projection of him rekindle their nostalgia for obama through to election day

which scenario do you guys think would more doom the party to a trajectory of continuing along the appeal to squishy “centrist liberalism”: biden beating trump in 2020, or sanders/warren losing to trump?
