local school system has 9 nurses for 15 schools. the article in the paper says this will be fine because they have designated people to watch the unwell person until a nurse can get there.

probably not removed all the CDC monitors we negotiated to have in China

During the Obama administration, the U.S. had negotiated to have its observers stationed in many cities across China, through a program called Predict. But the Trump administration did not fill those positions, including in Wuhan. This meant that no one was on site to learn about, for instance, the unexplained closure on January 1 of the city’s main downtown Huanan Seafood Wholesale Market, a so-called wet market where wild animals, live or already killed, were on sale along with fish and domesticated animals. It was at this market that the first animal-to-human transfer of the virus is generally thought to have occurred, probably from a bat. But by that time, as Marisa Taylor of Reuters first reported, the Trump administration had removed dozens of CDC representatives in China.

idk if things would have went much better under Clinton. there'd be entrenched R control of congress. more R governors.

and the WHO fucked this all up in the first place by getting everything about this disease wrong for months.

There would be significantly less cases and therefore less death with consistent leadership and promotion of masks which would happen under a Clinton or Biden there is absolutely no question or debate about that.

Unclear about unemployment lol. Certainly wouldn't be completely different there.

Dear lord I don't even want to consider how people in this country would have reacted to a national mask mandate from president Hillary Clinton.

We should’ve just said the masks protect against chemtrails from day one. Give the people what they want.

Yeah I guess all the people not wearing masks right now would totally have worn them if Hillary fucking Clinton had told them to.

Great thought brain genius.

My point with that post was that Hillary would be saying all the “right” things but that the people who aren’t wearing masks wouldn’t be, and democrats wouldn’t be doing anything substantially different like giving people healthcare or paying people to stay home with their kids.

There is probably a middle ground between "Establishment Democrats would handle this crisis well and also somehow overcome the entrenched anti-government, anti-science forces in America" and "You are a fucking idiot if you think it would make a difference to have someone leading the federal government who isn't handling this in something approaching the worst way humanly imaginable"

It's pretty hard to think that things would have been the same or worse under Dem leadership after reading that Vanity Fair piece. I sincerely doubt that we would, or could, have fucked up on that level.

Meanwhile news out of reopened schools continues to be not great, so that's cool. Figure at this rate it's inevitable that Kermit's school cancels its plans to reopen in five weeks. There's no way it continues to seem like an acceptable risk proposition for that long.

It is unfathomable how bad we fucked up handling this pandemic.
