Slartisfgh is never mentioned in The Bible, but it is here, during one of the early battles, that Matthew spontaneously became liquid. Radiation trace: negligible

find it sorta nice that the preferred single is Slip Into You where the true successor to Stars one-hit-wonder singledom is Cloud City. that would be a crazy late 90s hit
Really hoping they have a couple b-sides for this. I get why they didn’t put Inklings on the album but I’ve been waiting 20 years for a studio version.

yes please
i've always been pretty meh on Hum, so I won't harsh the buzz of y'all on this on album, I'm happy for you
I think "desert rambler" is pretty dope actually. I like the chill middle section and the stonery outro. Would prob sound awesome live. Never got into shiner but I loved the last life and times album and feel bad that nobody probably heard it.
I was very guilty of dismissing TLAT up until about No One Loves You Like I Do. The last self titled album is pretty great, particularly "I Am The Wedding Cake," definitely no one heard it. Was a bit worried about a new Shiner album as obviously TLAT is not worlds different, but funnily enough my favorite songs are the longer ones that are closer to TLAT. Whatever, all hail Allen Epley.
The riffs on "Desert Rambler" are pretty great, the verse vocals are straight up Al Cisneros. Shame about the quiet middle section though.

Boy with Stick absolutely crushes.
Aphids and Puppets make a real nice companion to DiH.
Love that all of these songs were bonus tracks on the DIH 2LP
It doesn't say anything on the Bandcamp page, but how nice would it be if the Inlet double-LP was formatted similarly, with the album proper on the first three sides and some bonus stuff on the fourth side? Dreaming, perhaps, since this band doesn't really leave anything in the vaults.
I don't know if they'd want to fuck around with having the last three songs on one side. I know a big part of the delay for DIH was Matt being happy with a test pressing, and given how full all of these songs are sonically, having room to spread out makes sense.
I'm curious if they did a studio version of "Inklings." For a long time I would've been happy with a single of that and "Cloud City."

"I Am The Wedding Cake" rips for sure. Really enjoy this performance of it too
I'm essentially an Epley stan so I'll vouch for all of their records (to varying degrees).
Here's possibly my favorite TLAT song:
Flat End of the Earth was very much a dry run. Different bassist and drummer. I like the songs but the aesthetic isn't there yet Suburban Hymns is a sentimental favorite. It's varied, no consistent style, but has a bunch of my favorites. "My Last Hostage" is muscular shoegaze (i.e., what they'd do moving forward), "Coat of Arms" is weirdly reminiscent of War-era U2, "Muscle Cars" is peak Sad Epley, "Mea Culpa" is a great extended rocker, "A Chorus of Crickets" is fantastic. The Magician is a five-song EP with more shoegaze (a couple of very MBV-ish songs lead it off). Tragic Boogie is their Big Production album and it took me a while to get into some of the songs. I played it a few nights ago and it's consistently good. No One Loves You Like I Do is the closest thing to their live sets. Has some of their best songs and some of the least memorable. Lost Bees is my favorite of their records. "We Are" / "King of the Bees" is about as Shiner as TLAT gets. The S/T is very good throughout, I'm partial to the opener and closer.
dont even give one shit about the choice her spare colors make tonight

This is bonkers to me. The song isn’t that dissimilar to afternoon with the axolotls. I could maybe see trimming the length but it grooves so hard.
Currently listening to Downward Is Heavenward for the first time since Inlet came out and I really don't get the comparison between these two songs.
