Hit the motherlode today. Shattered my previous record of five.

18 caught, plus 1 foul-hooked, 12+ more shook the hook, 24+ missed strikes (obviously need to work on this). All wild brook trout, most of them tiny (5-6 inches) but a few bigguns. 75% on dries.

Got a three day excursion starting tomorrow. Hitting up:

Fisherman's Paradise in Bellefonte
Little Fishing Creek and Cherry Run in State Gamelands #295
The PSU/George Harvey water at Spruce Creek

Last big push before the leaves drop and the spawning starts.

This bald eagle in the tree about 100 yards behind me was a much better fisherman than I was. You can't really see but there's a trout in his talons.

Image

Cherry Run on SGL 295, upstream and downstream views. This is designated a "wilderness trout stream" which means it's in a more remote/wild setting. I walked into a few dozen spiderwebs while trying to blaze my own trail next to the stream. Probably swallowed a couple.

Image

The only fish I caught fairly, today at Spruce Creek. He wriggled free just as I snapped the photo. I foul-hooked two others, including a 20" brown monster. They both attacked my strike indicator.

Image

When I got home, this little eastern garter snake was guarding my door.

So I've decided I'm going to Yellowstone next summer. First time.

And I'm planning to drive. It's a 26-27 hour trip but I think I can do it in one day.

Bought a new fly rod again. This one's a Hardy fiberglass 7'6" that was at a crazy irresistible sale price. Now up to four.

Not allowed to buy any more rods for 5 years.

One day is only 24 hours
A lamp with a white shade was knocked over and broken. Someone was smoking pot. “This is the pot room!” a young man said.

So, keeping with my new tradition of a post-Christmas fishing outing, I hit up Meadow Run today in the Laurel Highlands. Also in keeping with my tradition, I got the skunk trifecta (no fish caught, no bites, no fish seen). At least it was a nice day to be out.

My summer hoppers order arrived today. (You can't wait until summer because all the optimal sizes sell out way early).

Nice grip of hoppers there.

I’ve caught more fish on Dave’s hopper by a large multiple compared to the foam bodied or more realistic looking hoppers. Foam is nice for two but setups where you really just want an indicator with a hook though

Yeah this batch is mostly all for Yellowstone later in the year. For Pennsylvania small streams all I tend to need is Dave's and the Letort hopper (my fave). One other than I can't remember the name of.

my buddy has his dad's old homemade wrapper/dryer made from a sewing machine motor and offered to help me out. he's built several.

argh my bathroom remodel has taken precedence. why did i ever sell a new house and buy a 100 year old house?

i am doing a 7-6" 4-piece 4wt glass tho pretty sure, leaned away from the 3wt idea.

Caught my first of the year, finally. A 29 cm rainbow. (I'm switching to metric for 2019 because it sounds more impressive.)

No photo, but here's a reasonable facsimile:

So I spent four days in the western Catskills, fishing the Beaverkill, Willowemoc, East and West Branches of the Delaware. Nine fish total, including a couple browns of decent size (for me anyways).

Got this 8-9" brook trout in the Willowemoc on a #12 parachute March Brown.

Not sure what the line in his side is....whether I caused that with the tippet or if it was already there from some sort of earlier thing.
