hale county this morning this evening is streaming on pbs' website for another week and it's really fucking extraordinary. minding the gap which is also really fucking extraordinary is going to be streaming on pbs for two weeks starting tomorrow.

minding the gap link btw. i think the runtime is a few minutes less than the theatrical/hulu version and i'm sure they had to bleep a fair amount.

started 'pen15' last night after seeing so many positive comments in the thread for it.

i had been pretty ready to dismiss it without checking it out because somehow the name 'pen15' made me think it'd have lazy writing and i expected to find a subpar 'freaks and geeks' -- but no, it's good and different so far if anyone else is still on the fence

netflix cancelled friends from college just as it was getting good.

with marvel yesterday it's funny, i swear i just got an email from netflix saying they were raising the prices because a lot of new content was coming and yet all i hear about are cancellations.

Friends From College shouldn’t have been a show to begin with imo. Just really half baked comedy and an off-putting, negative sensibility

4 eps and tired of Umbrella Academy, too bad, could have been interesting but all the characters, heroes and villains, are annoying and slow to develop that any pace that fires up is burned out immediately

a question for russian doll (only if you've seen it all, spoilers for the ending)

so, they get stuck in this time loop, and can only escape it once they resolve these major personal conflicts (nadia thinking she abandoned and caused her mother's death, alan's perfectionism and avoidance of introspection) but those new and improved versions of them exist in only one timeline? and alt nadia and alan are still gonna have fucked up commitment and vulnerability issues? at first I thought like, new and improved nadia/alan would help one another to get past their issues in their respective timelines, but like...alan doesn't know anything about nadia's mom. so how is she not gonna be just as fucked up as before, just...not hit by a car in a single instance. I hope this makes sense. maybe the show just doesn't hold up to dissection and it's more about the journey or whateverToggle Spoiler

The very last scene shows them crossing over into the same reality. You can track which person is which because of the (kinda clumsily executed) uniquely identifiable clothing each person gets in the last episode.Toggle Spoiler It only shows it for a brief second at the very end.

Behind the Curve (doc on flat earthers, netflix)

fun and breezy. the film doesn't ridicule these people but approaches them with a lot of empathy and insight into how these people fall for these conspiracies and get pushed further and further into the fringes. while also recognizing the inherent danger of this absurd and ridiculous group of people. i especially loved the DJ Douggpound-looking supervillain that popped up throughout the film.

LORENA (four part doc series on lorena bobbitt case, exec produced by jordan peele, amazon prime)

heartbreaking. but really excellent and thorough. john wayne bobbitt is a sociopath and i'm so happy i don't live in the trashy media climate of the 90s

Oh and the person that comes off by far the worst in this doc is Howard Stern
