i have more to say about that video than i could type in the time i have (including the worries i have about these perceptions of rabid leftist gatekeepers in universities), but

i think the most striking thing is the way in which he accuses universities of black-and-white ideology and thinking, revealing that he himself sees the world in sort of mythical, star wars-like terms of good vs. evil. i think his constant use of mythological language here and elsewhere captures this.

i also find him deeply difficult to watch and listen to, independent of the ideas. he appears to be constantly drugged.

Did y'all see this

I'm not going to embed the whole thread but his callousness is deeply upsetting. Not like this is news, but it's just so fucking depraved that this guy has this platform in a time that (sometimes) feels uniquely full of the possibility of genuinely addressing sexual violence, misogyny, etc. That's how reactionary ideology works, but still

Intriguingly the aforementioned university bookstore has replaced the Peterson book with Madeline Albright's new book on fascism

This is horrifying. Is it common practice for pysychologists who publish books to tell heavily critical anecdotes that basically violate a patient's privacy? I'm imagining that woman reading this and it's making me sad.

This makes me sick. I know a couple "reasonable" UofT profs who fell all over themselves on social media to speak out about how unfairly she was being treated when all this started. She played you idiots for fucking idiots.

God I hope Jim was smart enough to have immediately followed up with the very easily explained counter argument to literally everything Jordan Peterson has said in the last 5 years.

nilknarf36 I'm not "narrow minded" , I stick by objective truth and am ABSOLUTELY against and hateful towards Post modernism and the 3rd wave feminist movement which "Drag Queens" are a part of.

looks like the nebulous Post Modernism is a thing now

thanks, jp

jordan peterson was in portland last night and i went to a counter protest. it was pretty small but the dudes in line were clearly real mad that we were there so that was fun. some middle aged dad with khakis who looked like a "small business owner" was walking through our event with a "FREE SPEECH IS A CIVIL RIGHT" sign and angrily stomped away when no one would argue with him. the line of people waiting to get into his speech looked exactly like what you think they would, it was like a damn fraternity alumnae event.

this is the closest i'll come to posting a picture of myself but that's me in the front with the best sign

Man, never realized until this post that JP is from Alberta; explains a lot...

From the wikipedia article:

"When he was 13, he was introduced to the writings of George Orwell, Aldous Huxley, Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn, and Ayn Rand by his school librarian Sandy Notley – mother of Rachel Notley, leader of the Alberta New Democratic Party and 17th Premier of Alberta.[15] He also worked for the New Democratic Party (NDP) throughout his teenage years, but grew disenchanted with the party due to what Orwell diagnosed in The Road to Wigan Pier as a preponderance of "the intellectual, tweed-wearing middle-class socialist" who "didn't like the poor; they just hated the rich".[11][16] He left the NDP at age 18.[17]"
