i like the sound of the glove more than the actual songs, but this one always struck me as way ahead of its time

sounds like a water lever in donkey kong country

yes. you guys hip to fools dance?

i prefer this to the glove even if it sounds and looks like a cure ripoff which would figure considering basslines are such an integral part of the cure sound.

I still love The Cure.

I saw them at Curiosa in Carson in 2006 and it was probably just a regular show for them but the feelings/atmosphere/music of that show stick in my memory pretty great

I like the way he interprets it, but yeah nothing can beat Mcgeoch's tone.

I also have a soft spot for The Top. I love how druggy it is. I know Robert was a mess then, and I'm glad he got better, but the circumstances add another dimension to it. I know The Top isn't a popular choice, but the other night I was moving my records to a new spot and I was really kicking myself for selling my Fiction pressings of The Top and The Head on the Door years back.

The Top is really good imo. Love these ones:

Love "Dressing Up." Also how grotesque some of his vocals are, especially "Piggy in the Mirror," where he sounds like Glenn fucking Danzig or something.

Yeah, Bob's vocals throughout are definitely some of my favorite performances of his.

not a big fan of the top personally. Empty world and caterpillar are probably my fav. Dressing up is a lot better live. ALways felt like a very left field choice that they put it on Paris but it fits perfectly. Also Give me it live works a lot better, it's a bit of a highlight of In orange. I think one of the stranger choice of In Orange though is starting the show with Shake dog Shake and Piggy in the mirror. Regardless how you feel about these songs (i think they're ok) i think they are terrible openers. It almost feels like they wanted to antagonize the crowd.

glad to see the top getting some love in here. just a wildly underrated record. wailing wall up there for one of the most intensely bleak cure songs imo.

i forgot how this used to be one of my favorite songs of all time before i really took a deep dive into their discography. probably the most emotionally intense song on standing by the sea. revisiting it a bit recently and it still hits just as hard.

easily in my top 5 cure song but i prefer the faster live version (as heard on paris) but i guess atmospherically it loses something. I love this song and it got me to read the book which i also love. Some of those lines are straight lifted from the books. Like the first four lines "All the faces, all the voices blur change to one face, change to one voice, prepare yourself for bed,
The light seems bright & glares on white wall" is almost verbatim from the book. I think also if i remember it well "on that bleak track, see the sun is gone again" Anyway yeah, shame this never made it on a proper record.

always loved perfect girl. There's a lot of songs i dont like on KMKMKM but this is one of the highlights. Always felt this album coudl lose like 7 songs easy and then be closer to perfect.

It's basically

The kiss
Catch
Why can't i be you?
How Beautiful you are
Just like heaven
One more time
Like Cockatoos
Icing sugar
the Perfect Girl
Shiver and Shake

I dont really ever listen to the rest. I wish Torture wasn't so dumb because i like the music and it has a great bassline. I'd include a thousand hours if it didn't have lyrics either actually. Great music kinda hinting at what disintegration would be but then he starts singing and it's like..did you have to? Fight is perhaps the worst 80's cure song. Actually i'm pretty sure it is unless i'm forgetting something.

fight is probably the worst, yeah. i'd nominate hey you and screw too.

i've never understood how KMKMKM is ranked anywhere near the other 80s albums, it's patchy from the jump. i'd add all i want as a great song, though.

The Kiss Me B-sides are better than some of the songs on that record.

This was my introduction to The Cure, first time i heard and saw them. This would have been i think mid 1989 or whenever this video came out. Legit thought Robert was a woman. It's not that i hadn't seen rockstars in makeup but i guess usually it was like glam guys acting fairly manly. I couldnt really explain the voice though. I think it was only a few months before i figured it out.
