I guess fight isn't the worst cure song but it's definitely one that stinks up an otherwise great album

Two of their best, and again why the b-sides to KMKMKM are puzzling in how much superior to many songs that made it on the record they are. Well i mean now that i fixed KMKMKM i guess it doesn't matter but still.

the kmx3 era b-sides are phenomenal but these 2 specifically are maybe my least favorite of them. the (uncut) gems are obviously to the sky and snow in summer

I'm gonna go ahead and assume you don't like keyboard that much. I like those two other songs but i prefer sugar girl and Breathe if i'm gonna rank them.

They're at the very least lightyears ahead of Fight which is factually certainly the worst Cure song of the 80's.

That's my problem with KMKMKM as detailed earlier in this thread, it has some killer songs along with some of their worst of the golden era. But all the b-sides could have fixed this.

One of my top 3 cure song of all time is a b-side though it's disintegration era, and RS has said he tried to make it fit on Disintegration but it felt too much like lovesong which in itself is almost at odds with the album.

Still criminal this wasn't on an album proper nor ever a single. I'd have kept it for later. Or like....why not release this on mixed up and as a single instead of Never Enough...which not only did not deserve a release but certainly also not a video.

oops I meant How Beautiful You Are reminds me of..

Just Like Heaven in the vocal patterns and rhythm structure especially leading into the chorus, which makes sense since they're the same album and kinda compliment each other

while I guess it's the 3 synth chords in the bridge before the verses allude to Lovesong which came on the next album

I'd like to do some kind of megamashup of all 3

You're leading me to talk about the rule of 3 of this record. I don't know if i ever developed on this here but anyway, some years back it occurred to me that on this record RS developed an extremely annoying vocal tic he didn't have before and didn't do after.

let me demonstrate:

hey hey hey/hot hot hot

all i want is to hold you like a dog-og-og/tonight im feeling liek an anima-ah-al/all i want is to be with you again-ai-ain

goodbye sugar girl-uh-url

it tortures me to move my head to try to move at all-ah-all/it's torture-ure-ure-ure

It's in like every other song of that KMKMKM period. You could kinda if you wanted include kiss me kiss me kiss me/show me show me show me/fight fight fight in this.

yeah i've said this before on here but the cure have to be the very best b-sides band. the kmx3 and wish b-sides are unreal good, it's mysteriously beautiful how this band has seemingly willfully obscured some of their best material. it's so romantic.

This got me thinking... How did this stuff get shoved to the back? Did they 'willfully obscure' them or was it more a process with the record company who left them behind? Did the band not think they were good enough for albums?

Does anyone have any knowledge on this with the Cure?

sometimes when you're a really good band at a career high you just make a lot of really good tunes and some gotta get cut

blur b-sides are another example of a band with lots of great tracks that hardly anyone would know about

i do know RS really loves This Twilight Garden and i believe has said something to the effect that he just couldnt find a way to fit it on the album and sometimes even really good songs dont fit on albums. i think he may have said in hindsight he’d swap it with doing the unstuck?

i dunno i have always been impressed with their b-side quality (harold and joe is another stunner) and appreciated that its sort of cure canon and they have put a bit of effort into making them widely available. the cassette version of standing on the beach with all the B sides was a fave of mine as a kid.

i would put Smashing pumpkins in that category. Guy made a fucking double album and still he's got like a bajillion b-sides from this era.

Like between 1990 and 2000 he ended up writing over a 100 songs.
