people in SM runners' chats very upset about the no SM thing. Runners don't seem to care. Makes sense. It's been kind of an albatross for the event for a bit.
speaking of albatrosses yeah the gaming community's inability to get on board with basic humanism re: trans people is fucking gross. I don't know what kind of progress twitch has made with auto-moderation. I've seen some casual discussion of possibilities around it internally. (Nothing official and I don't work anywhere near the twitch side of amazon, but just general chatter from employees sad that we provide a platform for this stuff.) The casual prominence of ugly politics is enough for me to almost never look at chat on any stream and avoid a bunch of streamers entirely.
I pay tax to help pay for things like police..fire..parks..but it goes to Ferguson like people and foreigners who are scamming our stupid government that is full of pasta thieves like this guy
It's strange how appealing speedruns are to casual gamers. As a kid I used to sit and watch my sister and her friend play Final Fantasy II / IV for hours on end, I'm sure that has something to do with it and I wonder if that's a universal feeling.
I think there is something to that. I'm definitely a casual gamer and I love AGDQ. I also love watching people play videogames, in college my friend Ben and I would get really high and he'd play Skyrim for hours and I'd just watch like a movie
tight! i'm slightly bummed about super metroid being absent, since that's the only game i've ever seriously tried to speed run, but everything else sounds like a fun time
Hey if anyone cares to read the article I wrote about the last GDQ, it has hilariously finally been published. http://anthronow.com/online-articles/ki ... subculture Includes a few people talking about the transphobic chat problems and other gamer-culture-shit. Also DS Dad. So it's got something for everyone.
This is awesome, thanks for linking. I also love that you speedrun THPS, I think when I tried writing an article about speedrunning in college I said that THPS2 would be the only game I could conceivably attempt to speedrun.

I wish I kept data on my thps times, because I've been playing so much since August and my average time has actually gotten longer. This shit is so nonsensically hard and time consuming in a way I don't think I understood until I tried it myself.
