Definitely gonna have to go back and watch Mega Man DOS. I went back and watched the Dr.Fatbody Sonic run and it was indeed a lot of fun.

cool, didn't know this was an option.

Awful block is always the best segment of these things.

Mohawk and Headphone Jack was cool. Really delightful that he submitted it 14 times and finally got to run it.

tasbot time

wish the BB run thats a goal would be an all boss run but they did that at SDGQ....the any% run is ridiculously fast with the skips but still pretty good.

here's some of My Favorite Runs from this year - i tried to include non-obvious runs that other lists on polygon/kotaku et al did not:

shadow of the colossus ps4 (boss rush) - this is a boss rush run, so the runner just fights the colossi in sequence. it's insane how well-optimized their attack strategies are and consequently how quickly they take them down. commentary is also enjoyable. i'm also just generally fascinated by runs of relatively recently released games.
another world: 20th anniversary edition - really cool optimized run of a 2014 re-release/refresh that i didn't know existed of out of this world/another world, which always impresses me in terms of how forward looking it was design wise for its time
ecco the tides of time - runner and couch do a really good job communicating just how insane the premise and mechanics of this game is, and given how enormously frustrating these games were for me as a kid, seeing them break it was v. satisfying
bloodstained: curse of the moon - just a very cool metroidvania. same principle as SotC ps4 applies here re: new games being optimized.
super mario bros 3mix race - a 3 way race of a 2014 smb3 romhack, which includes a lot of pretty cool incorporation of other mario franchise elements/optimzations. i dunno i just really enjoy rom hack runs i guess, much less a race of one
light fall - another recent game run, a platformer with the primary mechanic of on demand creation of different kinds of blocks to climb, which allows for a lot of optimization w/r/t verticality on the part of the runners
mega man unlimited - another run of a NES rom hack that's really impressively extensive. commentary/runner are also v. entertaining/good.
mohawk and headphone jack - this awful games block run has been highlighted in other lists on various sites, but it's just such an insane visceral assault of a game that it really does deserve another mention
trio the punch: never forget me - this is a deeply weird/hilarious/obscure japan only data east arcade game released in 1989 that found its way onto the ps2 in some japan only arcade collection - it's a beat em up, i guess. you uppercut a pink sheep boss's ass at one point, then become the sheep in the next stage, which shoots out weaponized mini sheep. commentary is really good game is funny five bloody etc.
metal gear 2 solid snake - this is the ps2 version included with mgs3 subsistence, i think. anyway, it's always fascinating to me to watch a run of this game and witness how ahead of his time kojima was with the sort of filmic ambition he obviously had for the title. the runners also do a really good job of optimizing what seems like a really tricky game to run in terms of timing of inputs etc.
i wanna kill the kamilia 2 - jesus this fucking game. it's a sequel to something called a "medley game," which i didn't really know existed, which i guess is a massive aggregate of a bunch of platformer fan games, with an insane amount of length and progressively more insane difficulty with each subsequent stage, this game being many times more difficult than the previous game, which was already evidently notoriously difficult. the runner is this german guy who is really hilariously fatalistic almost about his role in being an adept runner of such an obscure and punishing title. also very cute shout out to his four year old nephew at the beginning of the run.

The I Wanna... games seem to be controversial with GDQ viewers, I guess because the frequent deaths make them feel like more of a let’s play and the small margin for error on the longer boss fights leads to sometimes coming in over-estimate, plus a lot of more casual observers don’t seem to realize the nature of the runs. I enjoy them though, if nothing else just for how tense they get.
