like, Sessions are these produced/often high def staged recordings of bands that, in another era, would just be playing at the local jam band friendly college bar that does live music every night maybe very rarely getting filmed with a camcorder or something and largely existing just as a Local Band in a sort of vacuum. yet because of the performative/produced nature of Sessions and youtube aggregation/autoplay/keyword functionality they exist for us in a very different way. as sort of like, weird folksy theater troupes staging bucolic novelties along with their earnest stompings and pluckings

no that seems like a pretty good analysis imo

i suppose the difference with a session is that you can be a bit more artistic in the vision/recording/execution, where jamming in a coffee shop or down in the barn or whatever was just sort of a special moment where people came together. like a you-just-had-to-be-there moment. in some ways maybe the act of filming and editing those moments cheapens or dilutes the whole experience.

like if my friend invited me down to the farm or whatever and i happened to see the guys from Birds of Bellwoods play an Idioteque cover, that would be a memory i would cherish for a very long time. and it would be special to me because it happened organically.

but some of these sessions seem really artificial and lack that sort of organic quality that some of the others have and that is possibly the appeal as well. like a highly edited cut cut cut session versus a take away show where mac demarco is walking through a park in france singing and the whole thing is shot in a single take.

I showed my gf this thread and she insisted that I post this band. Has it been discussed? Search sucks, etc.

i think the Superorganism record is actually pretty good - it's really well produced.
"reflections on the screen" is a soty for me.
