We set up our tents around her property. I had a sleeping bag from high school, a Swiss army knife and a stack of external batteries. It scared me that there was no cellphone reception. We communicated over the week in hoots. One hoot means hoot back. Two hoots means “gather.” Three hoots means an emergency, like near-death level.

They were all for this fucking band a friend of a friend led that I got sort of stuck in for like five years. I played drums and just kept not quitting and then I'd get a text about how we had a "session" and I'd go do it. I did a paste session, an Audio tree session, some dumb pay to play thing in an office building where there was literally a digital vending machine that connected you with unpaid interns ("so far sounds?"?) Some jam band magazine Session and this like "yellow house sessions" thing in some dude's basement in Pittsburgh? Also these guys came from Staten island once to film us in a coffee shop slash used clothing store slash art gallery basement in Williamsburg and then ghosted us lol they ruled

Audio tree was best because they had nice shit and it was fun to wear headphones. I think some boarders on slack watched it live (lol) maybe you included? I hate that it exists so much I look so shitty lol

The band was so weird it was like..... extremely preppy? I tried really hard not to listen to the lyrics. The band members that weren't the singer songwriter dude just tried to play everything extremely fast, like way faster than he wanted us to. At least one of his records is definitely hoot adjacent

the Yellow Room Sesh was like a week into this utterly psychotic tour and my friend in the band (who was losing his mind as much as I was) and me both smoked way more cigarettes than I was used to smoking and ate two hot dogs from the gas station beforehand because we were too tired to figure out what to eat and then I had to play like ten times quieter than I'd ever played before for the band. it was a straight up out of body experience

We were all nervous going into the "audiotree session" because we were told by the band leader that it was a big deal and we had to like wait in this extremely official room beforehand. My friend from the hot dog incident thought it was really funny to throw banana peels at people like we were in Mario kart and his car got there earlier than the other one so the film crew came outside and filmed him throwing a banana peel at our car when we were pulling in. And a gross extremely crisp digital clip of him throwing this banana peel plays over the "intro music" they told us at the last minute we had to improvise

Oh yeah this one was also notable because the interviewer was like completely inexperienced and the banter was inconceivably bad. At one point while we were streaming I asked her what she wrote her college thesis on

The guy at the Paste Session said I played drums like Ringo starr which was nice, especially because I actually literally forgot the songs

I don't remember what the jam band magazine was called, it had an x in its name I think, and I embarrassed the band leader by claiming to the interviewer before we started that the whole band were huge Phish fans and talking about them a bunch
