I was spinning more Think Tank for sure. But nah man, Crazy Beat is absolutely terrible. Imagine if they had Money Makes Me Crazy on instead.

I just don't hear it as particularly bad. It's not Blur's best song, but it's catchy. It's obvious the record company or w/e told them to write another 'Song 2,' but even that doesn't bother me. I don't think it's much different than 'Bugman' or 'BLUREMI' on 13, and I like both of those as well. Maybe I've got a thing for vocoders and stupid punky britpop songs.

Not saying you gotta like it or anything. I just think it's time someone stands up and says they dont mind Crazy Beat.

But you should listen to the Africa Express album. It's good.

"for tomorrow" is such a great song, and i don't see people talking about it very often. (or maybe they do and i'm just ignorant!) blur were great at writing weird chord progressions that somehow still sounded light and catchy, and that's one of the best examples imo

leisure is better than their last two albums. “come together”? “there’s no other way”? “bang”? that post-rave guitar sound put such a big smile on my face

Blur was the most important band to me easily.
Saw them in some Trenton dive bar in 92’ when leisure was released. Up to that point I was into the clash , Sex Pistols teenage energy punk.
Leisure and that show changed things for me.
I remember Damon being thrown daisies. Smashing the daisies on his face while he sang there’s no other way. Blew my teenage mind.

Me and my friends went on to see them every time they came to New York. Through modern life on. So many memories.

Imagine '92 Albarn being told that ten years later he'd go to Mali and record some melodica solos over local musicians because his band had become this bloated thing no one really wanted to listen to anymore. And also he had formed a fictional band called Gorillaz with hiphop influences and animated videos.

I told my wife she should play this at my funeral.

She thought I was being morbid but nah, hit 'em right in the gut.

I had a playlist of half Think Tank, half first GB&Q that worked in my head as a lost blur album or at least pre production demos for Coxo’s return. Crazy beat did not make the cut alas.

I have mostly nostalgia for Leisure so it’s tough to assess but “sing” is an all timer.

I understand when blur fans hopped on board during self titled/13/tank that leisure seemed weak comparably speaking but at the time leisure was a breath of fresh air in a shitty 1991 music scene.

after listening to leisure a million times when it came out and anticipating the new album,
Driving home with the Modern Life disk and hearing For Tomorrow into Advert for the first time was   :D

Yeah this really is a great band. Albarn - Coxon is one of those classic British songwriting partnerships. well creative partnerships. Graham's curiosity and ability with a guitar and Damon's drive and penchant for good aesthetic identities was so strong – being able to write complete songs and then go through the guise of more classic English rock, then bring in some modernity with keyboards and some pretty out there samples, then the Pavement-alt-rock, the experimentalism...

I love thinking about how Think Tank could have been such a good album if only Coxon was there. Ambulance, Sweet Song, Good Song, On The Way to the Club are great additions to the Blur catalogue.

and yeah he really was such a pretty fucking boy. and some sick kits. you can try and look like 90s Damon Albarn now, and you'll still always look cool.

I saw them twice, including once at Hyde Park, in 2015. magical memories. father-son combos in their Fred Perrys smashing cans before getting into the venue, the rain, Damon's Docs, Levis, sky blue polo and green bomber and how that was a very Blur-Damon look but appropriate for a 50-year old... all sticks with me.

it's a shame I too have no real desire to listen to The Magic Whip. but Go Out is pretty fuckin vibey, got that Friday night putting-on-your-cologne-and-new-jacket, walking-to-the-local-with-a-can-in-hand vibe. Ghost Ship should have been a massive single if their managers weren't idiots. but that's about it. Fool's Day and Under The Westway were the perfect return to London, Britannia sounds and the lyrics were like that parent from Young And Lovely but biographical, real.

aaaaaah.

yeah. hard to see why people slam think tank. i still think it's great, and crazy beat isn't as bad as everyone else says. it's not a big step down from 13 imo. do you guys also hate BLUREMI and BUGMAN?

Bugman is so insane I think it works in the context of the album, it's definitely not a single. BLUREMI is Bank Holiday.

Crazy Beat is

I've decided that Magic Whip is top-tier Blur. Definitely up there with the Slowdive, Superchunk and MBV "reunion" albums.

It really drives home the point that Blur as Blur needs Graham, which is why I never have a hankering for Think Tank.
