The 2018 formula of biore aqua rich watery essence is the greatest sunscreen I’ve ever used. 2019 formula is good but had this mild alcoholy scent and _i think_ dries my skin out a tiny bit more but I dunno.

I keep meaning to buy that one because I consistently see it on people’s lists of favorite sunscreens. Might have to finally pull the trigger on it

Another one I keep meaning to buy is Missha Aqua Sun Gel. Anybody here use that?

I've been on this St Ives Coconut Oil wash which is basically just putting oil on my face but it makes it look like living tissue

Gloves are good, just be gentle and make sure to clean them regularly and let them dry completely between uses. Stay away from scrubs because it’s super easy to go overboard and leave micro-tears in your skin and/or damage your skin’s moisture barrier. Your skin should never feel squeaky clean so if it does it’s possible you’re over-exfoliating.

Chemical exfoliants (as opposed to physical exfoliants like gloves and scrubs) are usually gentler and can help with fading post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (aka PIH, brown spots left over from pimples) and post-inflammatory erythema (aka PIE, pink or reddish spots left over from pimples). Glycolic acid is a popular toner but you can use milder ones like lactic acid.

Or you can go hard as fuck and use an AHA/BHA peel like the scary red one sold by The Ordinary (it’s not actually a peel but you can get chemical burns if you leave it on too long so proceed with caution).

I can’t exfoliate regularly until my skin adjusts to my newest dose of tretinoin so I’m living vicariously through you guys. Make me proud.

Honestly if you have dead skin left over after a shower I recommend getting a soft t-shirt or microfiber cloth and exfoliating with that once you’re out of the shower and can see what you’re doing in the mirror. I know I said this in the post above but I cannot stress the importance of being gentle enough.

It could be irritation or it could be purging. Chemical exfoliators increase cell turnover, so all the pimples laying in wait to come out in the next 6 weeks instead end up surfacing in the next two weeks, which be easily be confused with a regular old breakout.

You can get tretinoin from Curology, a skincare subscription service that customizes formulas that contain 3 actives for your skin needs but it’s kinda pricey ($40 for a two month bottle + consultations with your assigned online dermatologist). Or you can go to alldaychemist.com and buy tubes of tretinoin for under $5 without a prescription. There’s a page where they ask you to upload your prescription and you say “no, go fuck yourself!” and skip straight to checkout.

I love online.

i avoided scrubs for the longest time because someone at the store told me it would make me look older sooner because of the above mentioned micro tear

i only recently got another one and have been extra delicate with it - definitely noticing that my foundation isn’t sticking to dry spots anymore because the dry spots are gone. BUT i’ve been sure to only use it once in the morning every other day

Yeah when I need to exfoliate I just mix sugar with grapeseed oil and apply it v gently and rinse off just as gently. It makes my skin look so good I wish I could do it every day but I can’t because eventually I wouldn’t have any skin left.

i just find that “eNzyme oxfoliation/peels” don’t really do a lot for me

maybe that childhood use of apricot scrub just sullied my idea of what exfoliation should be

wendy, should I try tret? i've been doing otc differin gel for like a year and while my skin looks brighter overall, i'm still getting breakouts semi-regularly. might just pony up and get a face to face consultation tho, my acne seems mostly just hormonal anymore.

if it's hormonal, i've never had luck with any topical products helping it

only spironolactone has worked for my painful hormonal cystic acne. i also do tret because my derm recommends it w/ spiro

Tbh I stan tret and believe with my entire heart and being that everyone should try it. Short of cosmetic surgery, there’s nothing better for anti-aging (and obv acne). However, a face to face consultation is always your best bet. If your derm doesn’t prescribe tret and you want to try it anyway, you can always get it online.

If you decide to get tret without a prescription, I must stress starting at a low dose (although since you’ve been using differin for a while you could probably tolerate jumping into like .025% or even .05%), using a small amount, and giving your skin a couple day’s rest between applications. But you probably know all that having been on differin. Also sunscreen! I’m not fully sold on retinoids increasing photo-sensitivity but it makes no sense imo to use an anti-aging topical and then turn around and let the sun fuck you up.
