Hey abs! I was wondering if you had any ideas on where one could procure used "restatements of the law". They are always big and prohibitively expensive to buy new (and used even, generally). However, when new editions come out, the old ones are out of date.

Where might people dump these or sell them off really cheap?

I just realized I should xpost this with librarian thread as well.

hmm yeah, that one stumps me a bit. I'd give me typical 'alibris' response, and then you can settle on an edition that is somewhat current and hopefully not too cost prohibitive?

Whats the best NYT Bestseller that you've read that was dropped in 2018? Fiction or Non-Fiction.

Sorry, just seeing this. If I recall correctly, shipping media mail to Canada is cheap and efficient.

Just FYI, I bought some books directly from Alibris to give as Christmas presents and had major issues. I would say that their customer service is bad, but it's really non-existant. Never received the books and still haven't been able to get a refund. I'm sure it's different if you buy from one of the marketplace sellers, but would not recommend buying directly from them.

Hey Abs! Looking to send a copy of Kenji Lopez Alt's Food Lab cookbook and the new N. K. Jemisin collection to two different addresses as late gifts. Is that doable?

ooo, good to know. I'm looking for a copy of Dopesick by Beth Macy for my dad to hopefully improve his empathy. Do y'all have that stocked and how much would it cost?

the art of not being governed by james c scott is about the region of zomia, which includes a good chunk of myanmar, yunnan province in china, and parts of several other countries nearby. it's the mountainous highland region and the book is about early state formation and the retreat of non-state peoples into the mountains to escape management. its very compelling stuff altho its a pretty academic book so its a bit dry at times for me. but very thought provoking! and very relevant to the state ethnic persecution going on currently in myanmar.

it also has somehow managed to appeal to appeal to some Reason Magazine types and even got a blurb from francis fukuyama which i found alarming but he is stridently anti-capitalist and anti-imperialist, he just manages it in a way that i think cuts nicely through ideology. he presents a powerful counterexample to hard historical stagism and shows how feudal states often replicated roughly the effect of capital on their subjects, but then capitalism was able to rapidly expand the geographical scale of that subjugation until it became nearly unescapable.

Slartisfgh is never mentioned in The Bible, but it is here, during one of the early battles, that Matthew spontaneously became liquid.
