theendoftheworld666@aol.com wrote:the last few hours of shenmue ii aren't 'urban'. like you're in a rural forest wandering around with a woman while you talk about animals. but it's sequencing after the first 50-75% of the game is in an urban environment helps make it to be one of the most powerful things in games i can think of & helps a relatively constrained game space feel absolutely immense. sega spent millions of dollars making the most expensive games in history at the time and they're 90% stuff like that. why couldn't that have caught on and more games were just wandering around environments and talking to people.

oh, kowloon walled city is a pretty amazing, dense feeling environment on it's own. what a game.

i feel kinda cheated in that i went out of my way to replay both of these games within the past year but i'll still probably get this and do it again

20 years later and there’s still nothing else like Shenmue

That’s why ppl want these games so badly

They control terribly and the voice acting is awful.

Yet

It’s Shenmue

One of the greatest game designers in the world’s magnum opus

Full of detail, amazing music, an epic story...

Man I love it

I cried when I first Best Shenmue 2 years ago cuz I knew I’d never get to experience the third game. I hope it’s great. It’ll at least be unique

You get a free poster if you buy physical

A bunch of UK game stores are selling it for under 25 right now.

Some sites have it listed for shipping in June.

I'm guessing they're trying to coordinate as schedule that lines up with Shenmue 3.

When you say ending, you mean the floating swordToggle Spoiler, not just the general end to the game? Guilin really left me wanting way more. I’m glad Shenmue 3 seems to be a balmy time in rural China.

right, specifically that

although even if 3 is full of magical realism and you ride a phoenix to fight lan di on a dragon, i'll still be glad to be getting it

I was so into the ending that I didn’t really mind that. Like I’ve said before, I was more frustrated knowing that was it. 15 years ago it felt like the third game would never exist. I haven’t seen any mystical elements in the previews for III, so I think they’ll keep it tasteful. I’ll play the hell out of Shenmue 3 even if it looks as bad as my avatar cuz it’s Shenmue 3.
