Doesn't fucking matter dude! Every person in this scenario are making independent decisions which are causally unrelated to each other.

So this is a matter of a wide net of people lacking empathy and acting selfishly if they refuse to see the bigger picture.
I dunno I don't want to be a part of that club and I'm surprised you want to be a part of it yourself.

Dawg, I never said i was a part of it you idiot. I'm making you consider the other side of this, which you obviously have never done.

Is it really stupid of me to assume these are your opinions when you're making these posts without any clarification that you're... playing devil's advocate or something?

Perhaps this is what Morrissey has been doing all the while...

All I'm saying is the ease of this decision for people itt is probably largely do to the fact that none of us really care about Morrissey anymore.

These aren't even opinions, they're just facts. Will one consumer's giving money to Morrissey have any effect on the guy's ability to spew racist garbage in the media? No, not unless a gigantic statistical anomaly occurs. Will one vote be decisive in a (presumably national) election? No, not unless a gigantic statistical anomaly occurs.

I haven't said anything about whether it is indeed right or wrong to do or not do those things given those facts, but what I've strongly implied is that a person's decision to do or not do them will probably hinge on how much a personal sacrifice they require as much as anything else. And we all could be sacrificing more, we could always be more altruistic, but at a certain point we have to be able to live our lives with our own needs and desires in mind. Giving up Morrissey's music is, largely, for people itt a sacrifice so small it isn't even worth calling it as such, but for others this isn't necessarily the case, and for them the decision is likely more difficult.

Like, regarding the voting dilemma, do you fault those for whom it is very difficult to vote for not doing so? I vote, but it is also very, very easy for me to do so. If I lived in a place with stricter voting laws or ones that are indeed calibrated to prevent people like me from voting, things might be very different.

i dont judge anyone for struggling with something like this. i just dont identify with it, bc as i've mentioned elsewhere itt and the board, its not like a principled stance for me, the people being shit just makes it hard for me to connect with the work. i dont have to exercise self control to not listen to the smiths or kanye, I just have no interest, and when i do hear them, it kinda makes me sad and angry.

yeah this is definitely how I felt wrt Kanye, like I listened to Pablo a ton when it came out but I still haven't heard the new one. and it's not out of any kind of principled stand, the whole situation just kinda entirely killed my desire to engage with his music. I will probably come back around on him again tho now that it seems he has stepped back a bit

Christmas Ape wrote:A really good balm for hating Morrissey more and more and having it retrospectively taint the smiths for me was reading Marr’s memoir a couple of months ago.

Just an exceedingly generous and humane person, and it becomes clear his influence on the band wasn’t just musical but deeply aesthetic overall, it’s a balm to remember it wasn’t just the Morrissey show and how much of what remains compassionate and welcoming in the art was the work of the other players
