Yeah this was one of my fav episodes, even if its about to go off the rails.

I'm loving the Faulkner southern stream of consciousness going on, it's presented so cleanly and elegantly. The changing text is kind of hokey though.

But man what a lack of journalistic ethics sleeping with the prime suspect. She's going to have to write seven paragraphs of full disclosure preamble for her next article.

also to clear up from before, i haven't read the book. i spoiler tag scenes from the show in case people watch it a few days after.

if people were spoiler tagging actual book spoilers without warning, i'd hope mods would ban them

question:

at the end of episode 3 or 4 (don't remember which) there was a short montage of dreamy stuff which, amongst other things like the little sister dead in the shack and Camille drunk driving, showed the headphones dad going into patricia clarkson's bedroom with a gun, and this was not mentioned again or referenced. I thought it was a cliffhanger showing the headphones dad about to kill the mother, which would be continued in the next episode. but nope.

what was that all about.

Every episode ended with something like that though and most of them seemed like red herrings but I guess we'll find out!

I would sooner believe those are subconscious fantasies than a flash forward. It just seems like a strange device to use out of the blue when the montage has been driven by trigged memories and projected feelings up to that point.
Though to add to the Faulkner comparison, Sound and the Fury does talk about unified time.

yes exactly

if the father entering the mother's room with a gun is a subconscious fantasy that's fine but it isn't playing by the same rules as the other montages and that's why I was confused

we'll see I guess

i think the father's relationship w women is summed up in the album cover shot where it's all these 'doll' like women, a metaphor for how he feels towards them

Holy shit. Just caught up.

This is the kind of payoff that makes a slow burn thriller like this so worthwhile.

The Everly Brothers song at the end was perfect.

So to what extent were Adora and/or Alan aware of or involved with the murders of Anne and Natalie and their subsequent cover-ups exactly? Was it a matter of them knowing Amma killed both girls and them trying to protect her after the fact or were either of them involved in any premeditation? And is the munchausen by proxy thing just a complete red herring at least as far as the actual murder investigation aspect is concerned?Toggle Spoiler

Do those questions even make sense or am I just a complete moron
