actually, now with this in canada, crave having all hbo content as it airs, dazn having restriction free nfl and sportsnet now for hockey, i really dont think i need a vpn anymore..
I mean, im up to ~$70cad a month for all my subscriptions, but its still cheaper than an equivalent cable package, its all easily available for watching in bed and its content i actually want to watch...

so...the VHX app is apparently not working anymore? i don't know how universally, but it's not for me. reading up it's due to a DRM (HDCP) issue. but i also can't watch em on my computer either because my external monitor causes an error. not sure i can do anything about it but hope the actual CC app doesn't have the same issue.

if youre referring to the weekly freebie i think i noticed a new sentence in the weekly email that said its not available on tv devices until the full launch in april. i noted that because i thought “hm i watched mikey and nicky using airplay” so maybe they shut it off

yah that's what i'm talking about. but since that's dead i'm testing out any and all conceivable devices i could watch on, and they're all a bust, from desktop on down. that includes the criterion channel website itself on a browser (so unrelated to VHX). if this remains an issue, even on the CC-specific app come launch, it means CC will be totally unusable for me.

what sucks is that i watched mikey and nicky on my chromebook. now it won't work on any browser except an updated safari

has criterion mentioned that they’re developing their own app? my impression was that they were planning on using the vhx thing, which was a bummer to me. i kind of assumed that’s why they’re planning to get the service out so quickly

I signed up for the full year today! Not having Filmstruck around really drives home how mediocre streaming services are when it comes to older, critically acclaimed movies.

I have no idea what vhx is. I assumed they would have their own app but they mightve legalese’d it with “Available on” apple tv and chromechast— like you can airplay via the browser, which frankly kinda sucks

Soooo excited for this now. It looks like they’re essentially gonna port all of Filmstruck’s packaging too like the Double Feature and Adventures in Moviegoing.

I'm signed up for this and just tried to play a video and apparently playback is blocked if you are trying to watch on an external monitor (????). Why in the world would a streaming service have that limitation? Anyone have any ideas of how to get around it?

hmm, so now I'm realizing that some vids play while others don't, so it's probably a matter where the material is licensed from and what their restrictions are. Oh well, guess it'll be a matter of trial and error.

Thanks for the help quinine!

It will launch officially tomorrow on Roku and Apple TV, so it will no longer be necessary to use your computer.

can't wait. I basically had to block Criterion Channel from my twitter feed because i couldn't get any of their movies to work on any of my devices.

Really curious to see the quality level of these streams. For essentially $7.50/mo this all sounds too good to be true

Also Amazon Fire, I guess.

It's blocked on Chromecast and some people were complaining about that on Reddit. So if that's a big deal for you, just cancel subscription.
