I'm sorry, this is absurd and tragic.
The school/state should have pay to send everyone to EMDR specialists or some other PTSD treatment.

I honestly thought that movie was exaggerating what these look/sound like but I guess not

On the bright side, my boss ended up being more supportive than she was the afternoon before and I was able to just be there for the beginning and end, not the busting doors part. They didn’t say what rooms they were doing what in, one of the teachers pace maker went nuts when they busted their door down. They also damaged plaster in one of the rooms.

But even while I was there they played the 911 audio from Sandy Hook and that was p fuckin bad.

We were told to invest in bats and fire estinquishers to beat down potential active shooters and was told over and over ‘you gotta be prepared to kill someone’.

Happy Election Day!!

I had one of these last June on the last day of school. Teachers were grouped into rooms and separate swat dudes tried to bust in violently while blanks were fired.

The next part was a simulation of an active shooter during a class change, and we had to pretend to be walking to class when a dude came out firing blanks, then evacuate. People were like shoving each other to escape and stuff, it was insane.

Found out you can almost completely jam up a door with one desk , though.

Yeah that sounds like what we did.

Let me tell you, nothing makes you fully aware you’re in a garbage country as being given a hand out describing the various items in your classroom you should use to kill someone

Sorry, Cat. Yesterday half of our building took the day off because there was a bomb scare. The box pkg said something like "Go trump, I'm gonna blow this up this week Fuck N***ers." It was scary.

There is a whole This American Life on this exact phenomena

The Parkland school was doing multiples of these same drills before the mass shooting, which caused a lot of people to confuse if it was ''just a another drill''

Boca is pretty blue, it's a lot of retired Jews from New York. If you're going to live in Florida, south east is pretty good. I like Ft. Lauderdale a lot. But yeah some of this shit is just bananas.

Part of the problem is too is that the firing of so many rounds caused the fire alarms to go off (smoke from the bullets) so people started to evacuate for a fire drill before they figured it out.

They haven't been putting the kids through these thank god.

"Scenario start!" shouted one of the trainers and we ran into the "school" together.

A woman ran past us screaming that something terrible was happening down the corridor where we could hear shouting. Further on, the teacher I'd spoken to outside had his gun raised out in front of him.

Suddenly, two "children" ran out of a classroom shouting.

"Click, click"

In the stress of this fake situation, the teacher had accidentally shot both of the innocent "students".

He then went on and entered the classroom, identified the attacker and within a matter of seconds "killed" him too.

After the exercise, I put it to Joe Eaton who ran the course that this could happen for real and innocent students could be killed.

"There is nothing that is 100%," said Mr Eaton.

"One thing we know for certain is that killing will continue until [the teacher] stops it. We have people say before 'I don't want my kids in the middle of a gun fight' but until you have somebody there to respond, they are not in a gun fight - they are in a firing squad."

Qualification of the course is based solely on target practice - 26 hits out of 28 shots at a human-shaped target, and the teacher passes.

A few hours after the scenario I had witnessed, the head teacher who "killed" two students involved passed the course.

I had an active shooter seminar at work today. What a fucking waste of time. In the first video they showed us, a guy walks into an office building and immediately starts shooting people. No seminar would save their asses, nor will this one do an ounce of good for any of us.

I work at a school in East Oakland and we've had two lockdowns in two weeks due to drive bys happening outside the school. The coolest part of all the lockdown drills and actual lockdowns is that my room doesn't lock and the PA doesn't work so the kid I work with was completely unaware gunshots had happened until we left the room.

Country is fucked.

Meanwhile, Governor DeSantis reached down and removed the Broward County Sheriff because MSD happened, and replaced him with the owner of an active-shooter-response firm.

Honestly, given the Florida GOP, I'm a bit shocked that the governor's apparent power to unilaterally remove elected municipal officials just because isn't abused into oblivion.

we had one of these at the university i worked at but you could opt out of it. the first part was a powerpoint type presentation and i was okay with attending that but i left after like 3 slides because i started getting dizzy and freaked out. went and panicked by myself for awhile and then quit that job before they staged the actual drill part of it a few months later. incredibly fucked up stuff
