Yeah, I think Dolby WebVision kind of sucks, but to each their own.

i mean it was noteworthy in its flatness and quiet

moments where background music/ambience was barely there

even the loud moments were not all that loud

saw this in 3d. audience was less into it (11am showing) but it still rips. agree about the sound being great. 3D was cool but i felt like a couple of the action scenes were a little harder to track, but i also coulda just been tired.

immediately came home and bought some spidey comics on amazon. is the main/best Miles stuff the bendis ultimate run? i never got the impression that had this kinda crazy manic fun vibe but i never read it obv. just now seeing samnee drew some of it though and i love him

The first Ultimate series is the best. I don’t remember Samnee ever drawing it, but the art is generally great (Sara Pichelli mostly).

It is not crazy manic fun like Into the Spider-Verse, but it’s good.

had this experience with a few family members and then my sister said some of her friends did this:

did anyone else experience people being uninterested cause this is animated? such a bonkers take when half these dang marvel movies are CGI anyways, and it feels weirdly backwards that people still look down on animation as like a "lesser" movie

Hearing that it was animated made me 10x more interested in a superhero movie than I have been in years. All of them should be animated.

People are morons. Everyone thought I was weird for wanting to see this instead of Aquaman over the holidays.

mostly, yeah, adults, in the western world at least, still are really backwards morons when it comes to non-pixar animation

but also animated superheroes in particular still evoke ideas of saturday morning cartoons/straight-to-dvd childish mediocrity. i feel like a lot of normies who go see every single marvel/dc movie would still hold the idea that comic books themselves are for nerds/kids and there's probably a similar sentiment at play here, that this is some niche thing, just a cartoon, a cheap spin-off that isn't even good enough to be part of the 'real' mcu. and isn't actually even about the 'real' spider-man (literally the first thing my stepdad said after this was over, the FIRST FUCKING THING, was "why do we need a black spider-man?")

I guess on the other hand you can't really blame people for buying into the extremely formulaic conception of "superhero movies" that has been relentlessly crammed down their throats during the MCU era

this movie feels like it wandered out of the early 00s when the genre was actively experimenting

yeah, i had someone who refused to see this because it was animated and i told them to watch grave of the fireflies and they didn't talk to me for two weeks.

I'm not surprised at all people are dismissive considering streaming sites and are absolutely loaded with straight to video animated dc and marvel superhero movies

Yeah like... there are a thousand trash straight-to-video animated superhero movies and uh... zero that got a major theatrical release? Even Mask of the Phantasm bombed. It's incredible that Spider-Verse has done as well as it has.
