maybe in 2019 we should all get into musical theater?

cuz I'm a total noob with this stuff but this is fucking amazing (performance starts at 0:36)

jeezus fuck everything about it is so good. the song is so good. the vocal performance and the acting and the choreography are all just so expressive. The song is insane too. It's hard to sing, imo. just makes the performance all the more impressive.

Musicals and theatre in general are one of those things where 99.9% of it is all bollocks and just a handful are real good... And I don't like the good ones enough to wade through all the other crap

meanie shrubs, that makes no sense. how exactly do you know that the vast majority are shit if you've never watched/listened to them? I've only seen a few and I've loved them all.

and thanks for posting that, celiac. I'll watch it...in 2019.

lol idk! there's the classic rodgers and hammerstein stuff (oklahoma, the sound of music, south pacific), the gershwin musicals, west side story (bernstein and sondheim) sondheim, which tbh i am not huge into... then the newer era which can be v rock oriented, like rent and next to normal or spring awakening. these i am not super familiar with tho. also there is andrew lloyd webber who did cats, phantom of the opera and jesus christ superstar.

JCS has the sickest song of all time lol

i am a total not expert though that's the truth

Speaking of hamilton, renee elise goldsberry (who played angelica in ham) has a major part in the new documentary now episode that mulaney and seth meyers wrote parodying a doc about sondheim trying to record a cast album

and she destroys it.

also, criterion announced this today

hamilton was amazing. yes it does the whole "wrapping rich white people up in black culture" thing, which can be cringey. but the fact is that hamilton is just really fuckin good so idgaf. like, i remember watching it and thinking that it was some of the best storytelling i'd ever seen.

it pretty much overwhelms you, nonstop movement rotating stage constant singing and cast coming and going, it's like playing with the cheat codes on, even the corniest lyrics come off well with all that talent.

Last week I bought tickets to see Wicked in October. Never seen it before but my fiancée has seen it maybe four or five times and loves it to death.
