let's argue over what's the last legit great rock album

Let's talk Aguachile Alley

Rock to me means the lead singer does high kicks or mic twirls, so therefore the answer is always “the latest Guided By Voices album”

Let's just all agree on The Darkness album with "I Believe in A Thing Called Love" on it and call it a thread.

I believe it ranked like 4 or 5 on my end of the year poll. I also don't entirely think of it as a rock album? I considered mentioning it though.

we had a few great rock albums last year... mitski, iceage, u.s. girls, shame, shopping, soccer mommy, yo la tengo

though I'd like some more distance between those before I canonize them

the latest slowdive is probably the most recent "new classic" to me

The top ranking indisputably a 'rock album' on the board's list last year was probably Constant Image by Flasher (which was like 18?)

Really liked IDLES last year for rock if that counts as rock.

If we're talking last "classic" album everyone was talking about I'd say probably Strokes or Funeral.

Very confusing to posit a question like "what was the last great legit rock album?", a phrase which implies all sorts of things about the passing of an era, historical timelines, shared cultural knowledge, etc, and then just insisting that it must be whatever the most recent popular rock album was.

I really don't understand this thread, but my answer is Xetas -- The Tower, which granted, has absolutely no cultural currency outside music nerd circles (and even within them) but it is rock and it is great.

yeah. whoever said the strokes pissed me off though.

i feel like people put on the rose colored glasses for them pretty heavy now. you can't think of something better than that since 2001? (hint: there's too many to name)
