let's argue over what's the last legit great rock album

Health insurance rip off lying FDA big bankers buying
Fake computer crashes dining
Cloning while they're multiplying
Fashion shoots with Beck and Hanson
Courtney Love, and Marilyn Manson
You're all fakes

their good albums (long drive through moon & antarctica) hold up incredibly well imo

Blurst...i absolutely agree

Anyway my answer for this in terms of traditional lineups making something really novel and satisfying is also that last royal headache album, but if we go broader I feel like there’s always tremendous new stuff

Like, it uses guitars and vocally the George Clanton record feels like a “rock” album to me and would be the answer for the last one I got floored by

Regional bias but the start of trust punks' 2016 album is the most excited/raging i've felt in a couple of years when putting on a new album, the same feeling i got as a teen from 'arcarsenal' or 'like eating glass'

damn i was totally underwhelmed by that War on Drugs album in OP. and when you say last do you mean that rock is dead now after that album or last as in most recent. pretty ambiguous.

“The Bars” is the only 2nd half song I don’t really care for. Hell, the best song (“After the Party”) is the 2nd to last song!

i’d suppose this being true really depends on one’s personal generosity with the word “great”

yeah, or something like that anyway.

the phrase "great rock album" implies some kind of broader cultural importance, but given the way the popular music landscape has been fractured, I don't know if that's a fair bar for most records that have come out in the past decade. I think the phrase can also only be used retroactively; you probably attach some kind of perceived legacy to "great rock album" and that's impossible to do with records that have come out within the past few years. and again, lacking a monoculture, it's hard to judge what that sort of legacy would even look like for contemporary records.

but like, angel olsen's last record is absolutely a great rock record. so are both of big thief's records. kurt vile's past few. jenny lewis' the voyager. amen dunes last one. and those are fairly popular names. lots of great rock music keeps being made all the time.
