I picked the euphonium because I wanted a big instrument but the tuba seemed too big to take home to practice.

The next year we all switched to classical guitar because there was some sort of issue with contamination of the mouthpieces or something.

Then the next year after that I had to play baritone because my new school had no euphoniums.

i was first chair flute and the second chair was this super nerdy girl but i out-nerded her in all the nerd contests so she was a real jealous b-word and would try to steal my solos, like bitch, you can BUY a piccolo and just watch me play that solo on my borrowed one!
anyways if she got real annoying i'd hit her when i put up my flute

Trumpet. My dad all but forbade me from playing percussion because he insisted melody and harmony were more foundationally important than rhythm. I hated almost every minute of playing it. Fuck you dad.

one time she had to read something for some school performance and she asked me how to pronounce "nonchalant" and the only reason i knew was because of mariah carey and bone thugs n harmony's 'breakdown'

alto sax to start then snare for marching and general percussion in stage

I was definitely hazed making the switch to drums, but proved myself by memorizing cadences and ranking a higher chair in varsity band

Same with all the fun instruments like guitars and a full drum kit

Interesting stuff about the chairs. I don't think our band had any designated first chairs or anything like that-- probably because most of us were so bad at our instruments

i played piano pretty good for a while, so if percussion kids were absent i'd fill in on marimba or whatever tonal percussion. that shit was fun.

I played trumpet. I got picked to perform a solo song for a concert we had. I practiced my piece constantly. Had it down pat. Got up on stage to play it and discovered the magic of stage fright. Choked so hard. Might as well played the song via my ass.

the recorder was an elementary school requirement, everyone got one.

i played clarinet for a year then switched to percussion instruments which I was awful at.

I signed up for band in 6th grade but my parents were too poor to buy me an instrument so I just hung out for a week until they kicked me out

drums for jazz band and percussion for orchestra. our conductor was a percussionist in her bands, so she was always really tolerant of how shite I was at reading music because she really believed in doing it for fun.

i'm pretty sure that at the time i showed little desire to play mallets or tuned percussion, and this bothered my dad after he spent so much time teaching me music theory when i was a little kid.

i spend about 2-3 hours a day on the practice pad now and it's much more gratifying than trumpet ever was.

alto saxophone for marching band and baritone saxophone in concert band. i wasn't great but i played from 5th-12th grade. i was really lazy about practicing after the first two years or so and never played outside of class. i kind of regret it as an adult. saxophone is a cool instrument and i never took advantage of it.

i tried out for percussion but bombed the audition.

trumpet and tuba

I was pretty bad on trumpet, so they put me on tuba and I would just thunder away on some low note
