Use them all the time. Smiley faces are a boarder's best tool. I think this thread says so so much more about you than it does about the smiley faces.

i hate that the trend on the inerwebs has always been that just when you get comfortable with and start to really like a site's smilies, they change them all to something shittier. They did this last year on FB. And some years back on gchat.

I use smilies (no i will continue to show my age and refuse to call them emojis) very rarely and never without reason. Smileys are like spices. you can't just sprinkle them in everything willy-nilly, you have to know what you're doing, they can support your words but if you overuse them it's meaningless and tasteless. Approach using smilies like a science.

A colleague at work mentioned he found it weird that someone used a smilie in a work email so now i make sure i put a smilie in every email i send to him

Sales here were being such assholes so persistently that they now are required to use smileys in their emails so they won't seem as hostile.
