I was in this position the other month and a friend said to go to Las Almas Rotas and eat tacos and drink mezcal. They were right. I suggest that.

Taco spots:

Salsa Limon is great for something fairly quick downtown. Get a couple El Capitans.

If you’ve got more time, you can go to Revolver Taco & then wander around Deep Ellum

I may wind up here again so will keep this list. Maybe I'll try Whataburger on my way out of town.

i love whataburger and get it way too often. it's my fav burger chain, but i think the collective adoration of whataburger is pretty biased

the brand is soooo hyped that it might not live up to your expectations. i'm reluctant to recommend the common iconic texas things because i think their symbolic texasness often outgrows the actual quality of the thing. at the end of the day it's fast food

that said, i am craving it because i'm typing about it

wait that's overthinking it, you should get whataburger. if you have no dietary restrictions, i recommend a #2 (double meat) with cheese! or if you're wicked hungry a #3 (triple).

Blab what is your feeling on the honey butter chicken biscuit?

Also, if you go to Ellen's, the huevos benedict with a fruit gazpacho was pretty tight.

It's great and is a lot of people's favorite thing there. i'm a creature of habit, the #2 is my selection, but i think you will be more than pleased with the hbcb. you should probably get a couple of them.

that sounds good, i'll try that. again, creature of habit, i always get country fried steak

My mother-in-law had a long layover in Dallas on Sunday night and texted that she had dried pork rinds & fig newtons for dinner.

Okay I did it. I got the #2. I tried to order the honey butter biscuit but apparently there is a cutoff. WHAT SELF-RESPECTING INSTITUTION DOESN'T SERVE BREAKFAST ALL DAY?!?

But I digress. It was good! I think you and I are alike in what we want in fast food. My kind of burger. Decent fries. Definitely oversold (as all institutions are) but I was not disappointed.

:)
