No, they hadn't even gotten around to getting anything on the shelves.

I N S A N E

my local opens at 11 most days except wed, when it opens at 9 am, and i'm sure it is fully stocked when opening every day of the week. it's a madhouse on wednesdays during lunch time

I remember going into a local shop at like 11, day of Cap 25, the Civil War epilogue which at least 24 hours before they had told the press was going to be the Death of Captain America and my local shop, who had mild to non-fans as cashiers hadn't gotten the books out. I told them 'todays probably going to be busy because that comic is going to be hot' and they kinda shrugged and I stuck around an hour or so to get my pull.

Not long after I gave up and started doing my pull at a chain store. Their stuff was always up by like 9 AM and if it wasn't for whatever reason, they'd fish thru their order and get all your stuff whenever.

My goodness I'm loving this series so much. It would be dope if the x1000 scenes so far are the final timeline and the serieses are building up to that saving the day in a way that will slowly be revealed.Toggle Spoiler I also love how Moira as a through line makes me care about what happens in all of the timelines. It's like the whole thing will be one complete 12 sided life of Moira by the time it's done, I always liked her character back in the day.Toggle Spoiler

on one hand, "prof" and Moira's long term plan feels insane if it's some ascendancy fake out, on the other, cylobels involvement makes all x3 feel like it is in M9, and I wonder if x3 isn't some mutant trap ensnaring the phalanx, it's just another dystopia to be avoided, and m10/HoX is the plan to avert both nimrod and the need to ascend at all..Toggle Spoiler

I don't read many comics but I picked this run up based on the hype and just to add to the chorus: holy hell is it good. like it's almost shocking how many interesting concepts they're just easily throwing on top of each other while also dropping huge bombs

mvnnotations:

-the orb instantly has a phalanx crackle, and it turns that infant into a little cable

-the uniforms of the church of the ascendency look like the ppl that were surrounding the librarian in x^3? and in the background are some of the mutant hunting subsentinal robots from previous issues?

-i mean apoc is the old man, the leader of the sol mutants. essentially the leader of these xmen. but yeah, THESE ARE HIS HORSEMEN. and one of them, instead of magneto, is the chimera of lorna dane and the oddly absent until now emma frost. been pretty silent and offed almost off panel in this issue (compared to the extremely outspoken magento of X^1). Menacing and mysterious, but something about the amalgram of two absolute forces of nature who are female. I'm not sure where to go with this. I've missed Emma so far, Lorna Dane is always intriguing as fuck, it only makes me more interested in this chimera and does not reduce either woman in the slightest and now I'm dying to see even more from them in X^1 and/or the reboot. We :ryan: at Percival, but look at this goddamned brilliant codename.

-someone help me out with wagner, grey, freeman?

-look, nimrod goes on about the variables of our recent incursion, and he is relentlessly studying colliding orbs
help.

Image

Image

am i insane? just and easter egg for the hickheads? what the fuck is going on here?

-between nihilist xorn (oh god which brother is this? the idea of Pureblood attached to a Xorn brother after the horrific retconning.........I love you Hickman.) and icy cool lunacy under pressure Apocalypse, I have two new favorite X-men. I adore creative future teams of mutants and this one is one for the grandkids.

-we are deep inside here comes tomorrow sublime beast/nova territory right here, full dread. Hickman's use of Logan is just incredible and effortless and pitch-perfect, as we head right into Planet X. This. Guy. Gets. It.
Image

-speaking of dread, Karima talking about the inside of a black hole is fucking Swan freaking out knowing Nix has been resurrected. This is where we're all goin.

-Rasputin is full crossing worlds through that singularity and appearing in M10. Hickman did it here too, almost effortlessly. I love her.

-lemme tell you somethin else brilliant: Cyphertoa opens its cloak like a sorceror, and Apoc confronts 3imrods taking up the panel like fucking Satan back to back.
Image
Image

-this show don't tell occult crystallization right here was the best panel(s)
Image

-year 45 Avengers world defeated GIVE IT TO ME
-all sinister breeding camp/chimera generations listed.......this is M9. including the Librarian/Phalanx/Cylobel future? Ascension? ALL IN M9?
-First Horseman. Magneto? Franklin? REED RICHARDS? (ok no just excited)
-Life 10 HAS to be new continuity recruitment/schism/genosha genocide. House of X is the story of M10. Powers of X is more or less how Moira makes it through M9 to M10. So what's left to tell in PoX? First Horseman? Ascendency details.......X*4? I'm thinking X^4.

Fucking love you guys.

the coloring in these books is amazing. there's a great sense of theme - from sun drenched krakoa in previous issues to the burning red/orange of nimrod's lab that creates a sense of chaos and fixed energy. every era and every scene has an intentional color scheme.

really loads of texture throughout. i thought nimrod was covered in ben day dots, but looks like it's a grid pattern, used in other places in other sizes to muffle the otherwise brightness of the panels, which is a neat trick (it's basically cross hatching in that last panel of yrs, mvt's).

a few things in response to the mvt post:

i was thinking cable baby, too, but does cable have a half-robot skull? i really don't know how his glowing eye works.

also really appreciated that when wolverine was blown to bits, they show the glinting adamanteum skull before he heals over.

what is it about apocalypse that you liked so much? he was a vital part of the story, but he was barely used

loved that everyone trusts xavier so much that they keep moira in stasis for decades, just to wake her up and instantly murder her based on his plan.

obviously the story points to moira stopping nimrod from being created, but that can't be right. it only solves one problem of the future, and not only that, but as we saw with the sentinels, you kill the original creator, and some other creator will come along anyways so it PROBABLY doesn't even stop nimrod from existing. so does she find his date of existence and someone inserts a change of code so nimrod functionally differs from the x^2 version?

Cool thoughts, mvt. Franklin as first horseman?Toggle Spoiler Hickman obviously likes the character, but I'm thinking he's primarily a FF character, and his endgame will always remain as Galactus buddy.

Anyone else think that the final Apocalypse battle reminded them of the end of Morrison's Darkseid Is saga with the exploding power supply and Wolverine sending Moira back cause there's nothing left?Toggle Spoiler

seems like it's just a human baby. i think in this timeline nimrod and the sentinels seize control from the humans and they are also subjugated

also, xavier isn't part of this timeline. this is the moira life where she teams up with apocalypse, before xavier is brought into the fold

off-topic but i'm on a big kick so, what are ppl's fave x-related runs other than the main title and stuff like Astonishing?

basically i have super little knowledge of what's good wrt New Mutants (just picked up the new Demon Bear Saga book though for the art), X-Factor, X-Force, Excalibur, etc, or even Wolverine's solo stuff other than the original mini

my only real exposure to any of those series was the issues in 90s pre-AOA crossovers like Fatal Attractions and Phalanx Covenant or whatever, but I assume that wasn't really the high bar for any of it, and it's also been a while.

i should probably get around to picking up Grand Design..

Some beloved X-Men stories/era/runs that aren't the ultra obvious ones or from the last 15 years:

Brood Saga, if not too obvious
God Loves, Man Kills (same)
Avengers Annual #10 is a great single issue that introduces Rogue and has the famous stuff with Carol Danvers
Chris Claremont/Alan Davis Excalibur and then Alan Davis solo Excalibur
Inferno (probably the best recalled classic X-line crossover)
Peter David's X-Factor (#87 is the most famous of the run, to get into more modern stuff, he did a very good, if inconsistent, long run starting in like 2003 on the book again, starting with a Maddrox mini that redefined the character)
Australia era X-Men (229-245 ish): cited by some folks as their favorite line up - Wolverine, Storm, Psylocke, Longshot, Dazzler, Rogue and Havok. This is where Gateway comes from and where Jubilee is introduced. Leads to the somewhat bizarre Siege Perilious stuff.
