Only time subtitles were on were the brief bits of characters speaking Russian

I saw this at the drive in tonight. im does for a rewatch, but it seems he had the concept and hammered the plot into it in the worst way possible

*mumbles something about the cold war*

it makes perfect sense if you watch the scene a few dozen times (and then read 14 articles explaining it).

That being said, I have no idea what just happened, but I do know Christopher Nolan creates beautifully terrible movies.

Having a moment thinking about JDW's otherwise unnamed character referring to himself as a protagonist, and then in the credits he's listed as being The Protagonist. Christopher Nolan, you want nothing to do with subtlety and I almost respect that.

I did finally watch Dunkirk. it was ok. looks nice, kind of stupid. it's kind of funny to see a war movie where it's just everyone running away from getting their ass kicked.

then I rewatched inception which still rules. though yeah the snow level action is just dogshit quick cuts of people running around and stuff exploding, like whoever said upthread. the fights in the hotel are probably the best ones he's ever shot though.

Inception, terribly staged action sequences aside, was good. I liked it! I'm not a complete Nolan hater, but I do think he needs at the very least someone to collaborate with that would keep his worst impulses in check.

The zero-gravity fight in Inception was really good, and there's some nicely staged hand-to-hand combat in Tenet. Nolan appears to know how to stage fisticuffs but is totally lost at gunfire.

The opening scene of Tenet looked like a video game and I did not like it.

i did like it and i thought that the sort of backwards trawl through the events of the movie would end up in that scene again, but they didn't, they ended up in that other place. i found the movie confusing

I liked when he asked the waiter to put his food in a doggy bag and the waiter said no, I cannot

One thing I liked was the repeat of the fight sequence from earlier in the film only now you realize JDW was fighting himselfToggle Spoiler. In retrospect I guess it was telegraphed but I enjoyed the reveal as it happened.

Oddly, seeing tenet made me want to rewatch The Dark Knight Rises, which I hadn’t seen since it came out. Turns out that the movie is more fun than I remembered, though still full of some crushingly dumb plot points.

I think the opening scene, the hallway fight scene at the storage facility (x2), and the kitchen fight scene were the only good parts of the movie. I'm really surprised he didn't end with the beginning scene again.

thought this was good dumb fun at the movies. I'm not sure what people expect from a Chris Nolan flick at this point.

-The music is good but Nolan's over reliance on it throughout is my least favorite thing about him. The batman movies use it obtrusively, always signalling how to feel at every juncture rather than letting the scenes speak for themselves or unfold. Can often be great to keep pacing but scenes like, Kat and JDW at the restaurant, why the fuck is it mixed in so loudly to the point that you can't hear the conversation? Hard to character build or have any resonance when the scenes themselves are truncated by the need to hear the BRR BRR.

So yeah, it would be cool to let some stuff breathe but Nolan's got so much plot to get through so its always a sprint.
Everyone says he should make a Bond movie, but really he should just make a 4-6 hour movie and see if we can care about the characters a bit more between the world building.

But hey, I think this movie is just unedited Nolan doing his thing and the spy genre really lends more to both the convoluted plot mechanics he's obsessed with and action scenes.
Specifically, Inception seemed so disappointing with the surrealism possibilities and his choice to make dreams a Call of Warfare level but I liked the action a lot more here.
Three leads really carry it for me despite not having a lot to work with.

hey, i saw it in the biggest auditorium in my local AMC on a friday afternoon and only 2 other people were there, roughly 40 feet away. i drank vodka and let the mask dangle and missed some very salient plot points.
