Yeah that Philadelphia show absolutely smokes. They've really worked This Place out. Hope "Terry" ends up back in rotation soon. Between those two and Gliding Through, LP4 feels like it's going to be their Marquee Moon.
Going to try to figure out a way to get to tomorrow, but I really only care about seeing them and the cheapest ticket I've found so far was north of 60 bucks. If I knew for certain they were going to play a long set...
Bumping this to say I've really gotten into these dudes over the past month or so. Just got tix to see them here in Chicago in May. $12 is a steal it seems. It's weird because I hate jam bands, but these guys hit me in the right way. Thanks, board.
Also, just announced that they're playing a free show at Union Pool on 3/10 (and were added to the Psychedelic Sangha bill with Sarah Louise next Friday, though I assume everyone here saw that already).
Total Yang has become such a glorious thing. Completely obsessed with it at the moment and some of the more recent versions are really doing the trick.
i think since like 2002, Chasney/Six Organs is a top 3-5 musician for me, so it's a bit disappointing. it's not his worst record (after only a couple of listens) but it's certainly towards the bottom for me, which sucks considering he no longer puts out 25 things a year.
the elkhorn album, for those who haven't heard it is like vintage Six Organs in sound. the "electric two" suite in particular is like my favorite half of a record this year.
I also think the new Dire Wolves album is the best of the bunch from that session they've released. The Elkhorn album is really solid. Very different sound but the fact that it's just two dudes jamming reminds me a lot of one of my all-time favorites (an album I undoubtedly found through Jeff), the Satwa album:
Really phenomenal evening last night at Magick City with Sarah Louise and Garcia Peoples ripping three sets of straight improv. Loved the Sarah Louise album from last year and expected a more folky sound, but she went full heavy shredder and just pushed the jams wayyyyyyy out there in the best way. Andy and Cesar were also completely locked in and making a steady groove that was constantly unfolding and morphing. Really really praying a tape makes it online soon (we thought we saw a rig and there was a shoutout to someone for taping at the end so fingers crossed) because it might the best I've heard from GP yet.
Super excited to hear that Sarah Louise collab show, she and the flower room people are my current favorites in this whole scene I think. I don't know what crazy routing resulted in her playing here last year but she's wonderful live.
The Sarah/Gracias show is up on YouTube starting with:
Lol nice those vids are exactly where we were standing, fun to see my head bob in and out of frame there lol. Jam #2 was my fav, but really thought they all were super tight
magnificent jammage above \m./ i love love love sarah louise and almost feel like her/house and land/nathan bowles/etc etc are a slightly separate thing of trad folk music meets deep abstract cosmic drone...whatever it is i absolutely love it.
Ya that's a good point, they occupy different parts of the scene though they're all only a few degrees of separation from each other. I'm just more into the Sarah Louise/Matt Lajoie et al plant magic/cosmic zodiac drone thing and burnt out a bit on the Garcia Peoples/Forsyth multi-guitar choogle jam thing these days. Like I enjoy the third Sarah Louise/Garcia Peoples jam from the other night but it loses me when the drummer starts playing a regular beat. The one time I saw the Garcias live with Forsyth, I often saw PG Six just listening intently and not playing anything, and I would enjoy more of that from the rest of the band especially when there's guests sitting in. Their opening set felt like it had a little more space than the Forsyth collaboration.
Very much digging Ryley's noisy improv jamming with Jewell from last fall. I love the direction he's going even though I also enjoy his songwriting. It will be great to hear another album of songs from him if and when he's into writing more, not to hear him write directly about his life, but just to hear how his perspective has changed in general.

Good post, I really was expecting a contemplative show with more space given Sarah Louise's music in general. At the same time, I'm deeply grateful I got to stand next to her and watch her rip unbelievable choogle riffs. I hope there's some recordings of her show today, which I missed but seemed to be more of the cosmic drone side of things. I'm always going to be happy with either heavy riffs or spacey dronez, and in actuality the binary of the two doesn't exist and it's all just one big unending ommmm is the sound of the universe. I wish the videos of the show from Friday had the between sets music from Sarah Louise with some GP backing cause it seems like it's exactly what yr seeking Althea. Pretty nuts that she played an almost unending evening of music for 4ish hours.
Also, gave the new Matt LaJoie album a spin today and it might be his best yet. His stuff has a little bit of that early 2010s Mark McGuire solo magic (like Guitar Meditations Vol 2) but with a much headier vibe. It's really special
