It's really long but the narrative arc is wonderful

There are no plans for a vinyl edition. According to Terre the bass spatialisation effects that give many of these recordings their sonic character are incompatible with vinyl mastering techniques.

Terre said in a statement, “Vinyl mastering requires deep bass to essentially be in mono to prevent needles from jumping, which prohibits effects that spatialize using phasing (having elements of channels out of phase, so if combined to mono the sounds disappear as a result of the inverted – i.e. out of phase – waveforms canceling each other out).”

“How out-of-phase waveforms affect each other in physical space is sonically quite different than how they would cancel each other in recordings, and of course headphones eliminate any cancellation completely, so the album’s sound can change significantly depending on the listening space and context. This was all deliberate, both in relation to the theme of “house as a situation,” as well as a way of “contemporizing” the album’s sound to something that could only be possible in the digital age.

“It also makes the album a bit club-unfriendly, since many club sound systems run the bass frequencies in mono as well… which is why I am sure some DJ’s have noticed the album sounds like movement* in some clubs. Clubs that run their bass in mono make for crap listening environments and reap what they sow in terms of sound quality.”

I mean all of the tracks are available on vinyl individually as EPs (and sound great), so not sure what the big deal is

I confess that sometimes I am ambivalent about the little clicky sounds but on the whole I think it's probably the most gorgeous album

This is my favorite album of all time

I think about it often to this day and really wish my homie Terre would throw it up on streaming for when you need it in a pinch

earlier this year i had like a month where all i was listening to was various Terre stuff, reading the critical work/interviews on the Comatonse site, etc. there's such an incredible archive of Terre's thinking (through music and writing) out there. one could easily teach a class from it on gender identity, the political economy of music, etc. (and i'm sure Terre would have brilliant thoughts about the gesture of teaching a class from that archive itself haha.)

the Routes Not Roots record under the K-S.H.E moniker absolutely floored me ... particularly because this was around the time of Mark Hollis' passing and, lo and behold, he stunningly appeared out of nowhere in this track.Toggle Spoiler

also the Queerification & Ruins remix comp. which includes that Oh, Yoko remix posted.

Yes to all of this, I'm fairly certain it's my favorite album of all time

That Oh, Yoko remix might be my individual track by Sprinkles and the remix compilation it's on, Queerifications and Ruins, is amazing as well

Never seen them live but it's #1 on my bucket list I think

listened to it this morning actually. definitely an album that justifies my audio bullshit.

I run my bass in mono and it still sounds really fucking good!

Yes, absolutely.

Once a year, usually in the winter I go thru like a whole month of only listening to Terre shit.

In addition to all the wonderful stuff everyone ya already posted, one set I keep coming back to is the collected overdubs Sprinkles did of Long Trax.

I can’t find any YouTube rips rn but highly recc’d for all Sprinkles fans.

Terre's obviously a genius but a lot of her writing gives me a panic attack lol, I simply lack the Capacity For Negativity

Midtown 120 is the perfect balance for me of truly desperately melancholy/mournful/hopeless and decadently lovely

I totally love this album, but my friend doesn't know about it. isn't that weird? he's such a loser. anyway, if I were to describe it to him, what words do you think I should use? I mean obviously I know it well but I'm just asking

Something called "spacialized bass" and truly trenchant Political Critique

i totally get this. it can definitely be heavy. i tend to only be able to read it in intensive bursts.

Basically it's like slowly falling into a dumpster full of beautiful feathers with a subwoofer at the bottom because you've been murdered by the state
