I went to see Salem at Santos Party House during CMJ and Vincent Gallo shoved me out of the way while rushing the stage holding a Super 8 camera

it's the suspense that gets me wrote:"i buried my heart inna wounded knee" is honestly one of the most egregious titles of any release of the last decade.

lol I was there also. Me and Lou were front row. For all I know we were standing next to each other? I remember grimes having a really bad performance. Also remember talking to clams casinos mom and family members before his set. Then when the fight happened we all ran outta there and Louis was their getaway driver and the rest is kinda history. Outside Nast almost punched me before he realized he recognized me.

Salem was great live when I saw them at Johnny Brendas in Philly. Was it 2010? Dude in a gimp mask came out and flipped on a fog machine and let it rip for two hours. It was so thick with fog you couldn’t see more than like 10 ft in front of you. We got shit faced and smoked bowls upstairs. They eventually came out with like six people to operate one drum machine and one sampler and hype them lol. Heather just stoic and zoned out the entire time. John played guitar over many of the tracks. Jack was a total ham wearing a fur coat and one dangling pentagram earring in. They were fun and the vocal performances were great including the raps. Crowd was into it. Everyone spilled out on to the street afterwards and a ton of people we knew were there but you couldn’t tell before bc of the fog lol. Fun night. I see that fader fort video every so often and it is just worlds away from what I saw.

Also I don’t they took it as seriously as everyone else did despite their posturing. Their music was fun, stupid, forward. Just so much more potential than any of the other crap that came out in that “witch house” wave. I think Sincerely Yours released some of their tunes which made a lot of sense to me. I felt like Tough Alliance, Air France and the balearic and Swedish new wave sounds at the time had a lot in common with what Salem was doing.

There was a relatively large Salem bside collection that was being traded around before the lp with MySpace songs, demos, remixes. Lots of stuff that is not on YouTube. I could dig that up if anyone was interested.
