yeah last night was rough for me too.

we were supposed to have a kickoff rally tomorrow for an apartment we just unionized but with the toxic air quality we're probably gonna have to cancel. those poor damn tenants.

we're desperately trying to get as many of our clients into hotels as we can but literally every hotel in clark county, wa is already booked with evacuees and emergency response teams.

Seattle took a turn for the worse this afternoon, AQI >300 now. I've been feeling a little dizzy all day, and then I was dry heaving in the staircase when I was bringing the dog back from a walk.

Nearly 500 AQI in Portland today. Feeling great.

Rain and thunderstorms starting Tuesday at least.

Did you bathe in smoke for an extended period during that? It's a hell that's difficult to describe. A good COPD simulation.

Fun to think about future rates of respiratory illness in this area as after only three days of it being this bad I'm feeling like I smoked 50 cigarettes in a row

Yeah, I’m in Portland and got super dizzy and nauseous in the shower yesterday and my husband had to help me out and into bed. It really sucks I quit smoking over a month ago just to be breathing this shit in. I can’t even imagine what it’s like for all the displaced families.

This article is a tearjerker (edit: oops, auspice already posted)

this week has been hell, i live in milwaukie so I had my plans all set to go, i was watching the evac map for 2 days non stop, i was in fred meyer buying emergency supplies when oregon city, where my home depot is, was turned to level 2 evac (mine and everyone else's in the FM got a buzz on their cells, surreal). i have a 16 month old who has asthma who has been watching tv a ton for a week now because he cant go outside, couldnt get him an air filter cuz theyre sold out everywhere in the universe, my main form of stress relief is aerobic exercise, i run 5k every day and usually more if i am feeling anxious/depressed so its a double whammy that i cant go out and run when it's this crazy. just an awful week. fri/sat especially.

we're officially off the vac maps as of yesterday afternoon, though. the rain might not be as much as we hoped and is delayed it seems, but the marine layer and federal agency backup has allowed fire fighters to hit back hard and begin to contain the fires. for a long time they said the beachie and riverside fires would merge but now they are saying probably not. this smoke is still ominous and means we cant go outside. my wife bought replacement filters for air purifiers and strapped them to the front of our fans and AC units and it worked pretty well; our house is relatively clean air, and the filters are almost black in large spots so they are obviously working. local news has been non stop broadcasting how all the antifa shit is a lie and not true and extremely dangerous to blather about, and the officials who conspired to spread those rumors have been dismissed, so thats cool at least.

we have lots of friends in the rogue valley, the ones who lived in talent lost their home, just annihilated. so awful. i lived there for years and just went down to visit the WEEK before the fire, i stayed in a cabin on emmigrant lake that was just gorgeous. my favorite place on earth :(

i was also reading that the rain is going to make the smoke worse at first because the size of the fires means a ton of dirty steam combining with the smoke that's already there.

basically not gonna leave the house until the end of october at this point

a lot is relatable in your posts here ashtrayheart. I have asthma and was one zone away from the fires here.

my friend’s mom lost her house in Talent and another friend was 2 houses away from destruction.

I was also in the area just before the fires started, and it is also one of my favorite places on earth.

CW make sure your anxiety levels are managed before reading that, it made my already smoke-inhalation elevated heart rate level rise

So I found out why I keep getting dizzy and nauseous in the shower...because I’ve been turning on the exhaust fan. But now that I know that’s the issue, I can’t remember to not turn it on every time I go in and it’s on a timer. Ahhhhhhg

Are apartment is so humid from having everything closed up. I’ve been having trouble sleeping with how warm it’s been inside. This is the worst

Do you have a floor fan? It’s the only thing keeping me sane.

The neighbor burnt something cooking I guess, so I ended up opening my windows because I swear it was like hazy inside. Eventually the burnt stove smell was replaced by forest fire :/
