jason kander would be best-case scenario candidate in MO right? even though he said he's not running

He’s not running because it’s not a winnable seat

I think cori bush winning a hard fought primary to take a safe seat and then immediately throwing that in the trash would not be the best case at all

the best case scenario for missouri is dc/pr statehood (and eventually abolishing the senate)

It’s a Republican state dude. McCaskill got in on a wave election and got re-elected because her opponent fell face first into a toilet.

having a bench doesn't matter when you aren't going to win in any circumstances except for the circumstances where whoever you run would win

maybe that Lucas Kunce guy will raise a bunch of money and run a good campaign and lose by 30 points

do any long-term movement strategies work? has WV Can't Wait seen any electoral successes yet?

the change we're discussing is going to happen in one of two ways

1. the hard way, a la the reagan right. this will take decades to really bear fruit, if it ever does.

2. the disruptive way through a black swan event, which is inherently and definitionally not a thing you can really prep for, tho obviously you'd rather be organized in such a circumstance than not

some things would make it much more palatable overnight, especially VRA-level electoral reform and if you're daydreaming the abolition of the Senate, but of course if that happens then you're looking at a political realignment that may or may not benefit the left

I know I'm relentlessly pessimistic about this and I'm sorry but i really don't think there's an optimistic case that isn't wildly unlikely

there are however lots of potential victories and one must go after them

a republican is the fucking governor of massachusetts, maryland and vermont

that's more fruitful than expecting MO-SEN to be competitive. it will not be. cori bush ain't changing that

2020 was the worst year for democrats in state history, sadly. They seemed to be clawing back from 2010/12, where they lost their 70 year lockdown on every position of power, but 2020 was a bloodbath that wiped out all the gains they’d previously made and somehow the state party is in a million pieces. Doesn’t make a lot of sense to me, like you’d think they’d have a bunch of money and at least be able to compete but things are a mess.

Until 2010, democrats had a pretty much 2-1 advantage in registration but as of now the advantage is less than 10k and the GOP is turning in crazy registration numbers every quarter while democrats are dropping like flies. In the 90s for a whole cycle Republicans held only a single seat in the state senate. I just found this out recently and it’s mind blowing to me that they were able to flip the switch from then, when Byrd and our congressmen were often running unopposed in general elections to now where there are seemingly only republicans.

I still don't understand what "moderate" means here. Like on a policy level, voting against the covid stimmy and not voting to impeach trump makes you a moderate dem? What does moderate policy look like when your point of comparison is biden?
