Imagine Party A held both Senate seats in the 25 most populous states: CA, TX, FL, NY, IL, PA, OH, GA, NC, MI, NJ, VA, WA, AZ, MA, TN, IN, MO, MD, WI, CO, MN, SC, AL, and LA.

And Party B held both Senate seats in the 25 least populous states: WY, VT, AK, ND, SD, DE, RI, MT, ME, NH, HI, ID, WV, NE, NM, KS, MS, AR, NV, IA, UT, CT, OK, OR, and KY.

And say Party B, by some crazy happenstance, won the Presidential election.

The VP's tiebreaking vote would give Party B, which represents 16% of the national population, control of the Senate. Party A, which represents 84% of the population, would be the minority party.

the above is more than enough but for what it's worth, the senate was founded as a compromise when the country had 4 million people. if you actually read what the founders wrote about it at the constitutional convention none of the bullshit Political Reporter Or Doris Kearns Goodwin Or David McCullough narratives about it actually ring true; it wasn't a check on urban areas (the country barely had fucking cities!), it wasn't an attempt to be a check on the house, it was just a practical "sure let's give these slightly smaller states an equal number of votes so we can pass this fucking thing" deal that has spiraled out of control and led to 250 years of minoritarian abuse of people of color at the hands of white people and every senator should be executed in public before we abolish the thing forever

I can see an argument for the senate about having the lesser-populated but resource-rich areas of the country staying protected from just being pillaged by the densely populated areas, but then again Joe Manchin's been in a seat of power forever more than a decade and fracking is still rampant in West Virginia and ruining drinking water supplies out there which doesn't speak well to the ability/desire of the senate to protect those areas.

I'm still in the "run better campaigns/candidates in rural areas and actually win" camp but can totally buy the arguments for just abolishing the senate altogether.

Ok so I just spent like a half hour trying to find video of even a single republican politician being called out for the blatant lies they’re using to justify these voter suppression bills and legit haven’t found a single example. I genuinely don’t understand how that’s possible because most outlets are calling it what it is in their reporting, but it seems like nobody has thought to straight up ask Kemp or Abbott or whoever the fuck “Why are you so comfortable lying to your constituents?” Or “Your stated justifications for cramming this legislation through have been universally debunked and somehow you’re comfortable to continue repeating them. Can you please explain” or any other (what I would assume to be) foundational rookie question you could ask about their approach.

Like Lindsay Graham being allowed to do the Sunday shows and repeatedly regurgitating the stupid bullshit and it not ending with his ass being handed to him seems fucking insane to me. I know it’s something we’ve been complaining about for years, like why is it seemingly impossible for one of these dickheads to hear the huge levels of dishonesty and deflection and everything else and simply ask why they’re repeatedly lying about it? This shit is just beyond the fucking pale. Brian Kemp did that presser after the MLB moved the All Star game and I can’t bring myself to slog thru it when I’ve been totally unable to even find a clip from it containing what I’m looking for. Just, fucking how, how is that not something these pieces of shit are constantly being made to answer for and defend?
